And it really was a shock, that engine has run like a champ for the 8 years i've had the plane and it wasn't high hours either! And when I say it runs like a champ I mean to the extent other pilots would fly the plane and comment on it. Really was a normal day till suddenly (and litterally) BANG!

That is so strange, I wonder if there was not something more going on. I know those are solid casts, not bolted together like some of the older rigs, and given it ran SO LONG without issue I can't really say it was a flaw. I honestly am completely baffled how it broke like this.

I've heard of remanufactured ones doing this but this was new on the engine in 2006 according to the logs.

yeah, remanned jugs are kinda known for splitting after being machined, but this is just crazy

So turns out the jugs were ADed and falsely signed off. Forgot to throw that update out. ECI Titans

Oh well that's just LOVELY. Glad to hear you found the real solution though, unfortunate as it may be. I guess at least that takes the mystery out of it.

you have to be so very careful what shop does the work... 45 years in aviation and I've seen all sorts of things... these people do not even consider that their dishonesty might just kill someone...
