I walked until I felt I might faint, all to seek the counsel of the princess trio. I, just a girl,
made the journey through the hills until I came to the elysian valley in which their
temple stood. From my vantage point, it was a glimmering white sugar-sculpture,
adorned richly with tendrils of flowers and ivy, as if beauty itself could not bear to
be far from these women. I hastened down the hills to draw near to the temple and
saw petals falling like pale lavender snow upon the steps of polished marble.
Within, I became aware that I might be trespassing, and so I hid behind a column
and played my fingers into a twist of flowering bougainvillea vines and overheard
their conversation.
The three had gathered for tea, and I chanced to observe for but a moment their
attire, which hung in artful twists around their graceful bodies. Gold and jewelry
adorned them in fireworks of sparkling majesty, yet they seemed as serene as a
basin of freshly drawn milk. No one attended them, yet they drank their tea, shared
their stories, and seemed as inseparable as the bell chimes of their laughter, which
swirled together into a harmony.
One, fair as guiltless clouds, stirred cream into her little cup and listened, smiling the
smallest, sweetest blossom of a smile. Another, with hair like ribbon candy and the
most regal expression, cut herself a slice of cake. The last of the triumvirate was gracile
as a spring fawn, with eyes of teal that drew in and reflected scintillating faerie lights,
who told the other two of her rose cultivar while they were her rapt interlocutors.
Though I had come so far, and had a heart in need of guidance and of mercy, I decided
quickly it would be best to wait for the princesses to first finish their tea in peace.
