Whenever I'm possessed by one of the spirits in the bracelets, there have been these moments where I get a glimpse into their thoughts or emotions, like we start sharing the same mind as well as body. Sometimes I even see parts of their past lives. It's not something I do intentionally, it feels like either a dream or being forced to watch a show through someone else's eyes. What's really strange however, is that I don't think that the spirits are even aware that I'm seeing these things about them. I don't know if I should tell them about it, and I'm hoping the visions eventually go away on their own since they cropped up from nowhere. I'm also wondering if it's possible that it's not me, but perhaps one of the spirits trying to tell me something about the others covertly, feeding me information in a way they won't notice. I'm not sure.
In any case, Emyris is without a doubt the most secretive of the spirits. She won't ever talk except to insult me, but Nyx and some of the other spirits have filled me in on her history: When she once ruled a frozen kingdom, that she was a cruel tyrant who abused her subjects, and how she personally ended the lives of many innocent Pokémon - or worse, imprisoned them in their own body for an eternity as petrified statues of ice. All of the visions I've had about Emyris seem to confirm that, but I also have the feeling that there is still more to know. I haven't yet heard any of her thoughts when she's possessed me, which may be precisely because she does her best not to communicate with any of us, but I have felt a wide range of her emotions. Hatred, violence, conflict, but also frustration, hopelessness, and a yearning for something.
It got me thinking about her a lot. Everything we know about Emyris' past paints her as a complete sociopath, with a flagrant disregard for the lives of others and a twisted pleasure in their suffering. Despite all that, whenever she's possessed me, she so far hasn't attacked any Pokémon that we weren't already in a fight with (However, hostile Pokémon do end up bearing the full brunt of her wrath, and it isn't pretty.) She also hasn't ever tried to harm me personally beyond mean words. The seething anger and bitterness is still there under the surface, but it's kept in check by her seclusion and passive-aggressiveness towards me and the other spirits, only for her to end up taking it out on hostile Pokémon who pick a fight with us. It just doesn't feel consistent, given her legacy.
Her feelings of frustration and yearning didn't make sense to me either, until I started thinking about what exactly had changed for Emyris between the past and the present. Regardless of her rotten ethics, she had seemingly everything in her world. She had power, wealth, her every want and need catered to. She was an empress, her word was law on a whim. Anything she didn't like about her world, she had altered to her satisfaction. She had complete mastery and control over her life and her surroundings, but in the end she still couldn't elude fate.
Now Emyris is a ghost, a literal shadow of her former self. From the moment I put on the bracelets, she had lost just about everything that she'd ever known; if her spirit was dormant in the bracelets for possibly centuries, for her it could have felt like waking up and immediately losing everything you owned since the night before. She has no authority, no luxuries, the world no longer cares about her demands or opinions, and she has no friends to speak of. Even the other spirits she is stuck with don't like her, nor do I, the Sylveon that she now depends on in order to possess and regain some semblance of life. She probably also has to reconcile with the fact that many Pokémon in her time likely celebrated her death, and may be slightly unnerved about what history books have to say about her.
That is my theory at least, but it's up to her to come forward to share how she truly feels, if she ever decides to. Ideally, I would just like the shared thoughts and the visions to stop, or be able to control them at least so they can't be forced on me. I don't want to spy on the spirits, but knowing what I do now, I can't help but be worried about Emyris and her cloak of secrecy. It can't be easy for anyone to let go of their past and what they've lost, especially someone with a power-complex like her. And I have to wonder, if she truly feels conflicted about her present situation and is longing for something out there in the world, could that mean the frigid bitch is actually feeling regret about her past atrocities when it ultimately amounts to nothing for her now? Is she trying to move on and become better in this bizarre afterlife she's in?
...Or is she contemplating if it's at all possible to reclaim her lost empire? I don't know. If only I could get her to talk, the other spirits and I could at least try to steer her away from such ideas.
