The greatest misconception about hypnosis is that the extent to which a Pokémon's mind can be altered is highly exaggerated. The power of the mind is indeed immense, and it has spurred the rise and fall of entire empires, but it does not work the way most Pokémon seem to believe. It is something only Psychic-Type Pokémon really understand, as well as a select few other species with inherent psychic potential. The commoner's belief is that Pokémon look into our eyes and immediately fall under a spell, then we can make them think or do whatever we wish.
Some then become fearful of Psychic-Types, especially exemplary specimens such as myself, thinking that we will take away the essence of their independent self to make them our mind slaves. There is historical precedent for such atrocities against the souls of Pokémon, but this is simply not factual for the powers of psychics and hypnosis. Furthermore, "Mind Control" as it's known is not a power of the mind, but the practice of horrible and forbidden magics. Sadly, these abilities are conflated because onlookers oftentimes do not understand what they are seeing when we display our powers. I can sympathize why using telekinesis directly on an individual certainly appears as though we can make them dance like our puppets.
In my humble opinion, the greatest power of Psychic-Types is our understanding of Truth in all of its forms. That does not mean it is always our ally, but it is the fundamental distinction between mind control and hypnosis. None break free from mind control without assistance, they are indeed slaves, but the effectiveness of hypnosis is limited and always dispelled when truth and reality are stacked against it. One cannot hypnotize an Ice-Type to enjoy scorching heat, or make a Rhydon believe that it can fly - Not for long at least, but that is a humorous anecdote for another time.
We psychics can try and conceal the truth to prolong the effect as long as possible, but a hypnotized Pokémon will always discover it in due time and break free on their own... Unless of course, they are actually enjoying our hypnotic suggestions. In which case, hypnosis ends up revealing a truth about themselves, does it not?~
