Its the story of when Raven took the moon and stars from the suns box and gave them to the humans to light up the heavens at night

The site unfortunately has no distributions as to the pole. Only dedications to the 'benches' which are a wolf, and a salmon. I found the site to be quite beautiful personally. Thank you for your explanations, it makes more sense now. Thanks :)

well the story is the humans asked raven to give them light at night and raven asked the sun to give the moon and stars to the human but the sun said No so rave changed into the form of a human and snuck into suns lodge at night and took the box and the changed back into raven form and carried the box back to the humans and open the box and let the moon and stars escape into the hevens and that how the moon and stars got there and as punishment the sun turned ravens feather black so the humans could not see raven in the dark

This is not a version of the folklore/story I've heard. I've heard similar stories in the past just not of how Raven turned black. Thats something really cool. Thanks for the history.

like any of the indian storys it get changed around since mostly its a spoken story untill somone remembers to write it down so it get changed a bit from tribe to tribe at potlatches

i think i read it in a book about NW indian stories and songs published in the 1960's
