The extraction was luckily very smooth, onboard medic on the chopper helping to properly dress the various wounds the squad had received, Eria herself not exactly needing anything as all the damage went to her armor, kevlar and shield. She did sigh as she gave herself a look over though, scuff marks all across her armor plating, those explosions and grazes certainly did a number on her. She was happy she didn’t have her chassis pierced in any way though, that sniper shot at the end had a high chance of slamming through her internal workings if it hadn’t gotten partly blocked by her hardlight.
All and all, she was very happy with her performance, and so was the squad she saved. She was thanked profusely for her efforts all the way to the landing pad on their forward base, the dragoness continuing to have to tell them how no thanks were required, but it was appreciated. They then all got carted off to their respective locals, the canid and the Ram off to surgery, while the other two were quickly pulled away to get a full psychiatric report.
Leaving Eria to do her standard after battle routine.
And that, was winding down, and cleaning her armor.
And so, she walked her way over to the storage arsenal, where all the crates of supplies and various weaponry was stored, and she sighed as she disengaged all her various armor pieces, save one. The electromagnetic locks deactivate as all the armor begins to fall to the floor, the various bits of kevlar/latex pulling back into the parts of the armor that contained them, as every part now lay strewn about upon the floor of the arsenal. And she sighed, testing the strength of one of the boxes, before planting her butt squarely upon it, the crate slightly whining under her weight but the dragoness just giggling a bit.
“OHh hush, I’m ‘big boned’” She laughed to herself, as she looked down at the plating that still wraped around the upper part of her breasts, and sat protecting her blue glowing gem. The true ‘brain’, or, more accurately, her soul, housed nice and nestled in the center of her chest. The armor plates still held the kevlar armor of her chest on her person, keeping her from being completely nude, in case anyone came in to grab something or was looking for her. But, she let out another sigh, now shaking her head and running a hand through her hair, as it fully puffed out now that the armor wasn’t pressing some of it down Eria now just letting out another giggle.
“AAAhhh feels nice..back to beeing all ‘sensitive’ again.” She giggled, her body’s technological senses now no longer partly dampened by the armor, her chest being the one exception. But she was ok with that, as even this stilted partly dry and dust filled air she happened to be sitting in, felt beyond nice against her mechanical circuits and skin.
“Now...where to start…” She muttered, grabbing a cloth from one of the nearby crates, and using it to first wipe off her chest armor, making sure it shined as she thought about what armor to go for first.
“Hmm...welll.” She looked over to see her helmet laying on the crate next to her, and she shrugged, as she finished polishing up her chest plate, and began the work of cleaning up her helmet.
This process always had a sort of, ‘cathartic’ feeling for her. While she wasn’t organic, thereby didn’t necessarily need to ‘cool off’ after battle or wait for her adrenaline to calm down, she did still enjoy the process of whipping away the grime the battle brought. While she couldn’t fully repair her own armor, at least not without bringing a metal making forge with her wherever she went, the feeling of polishing it always just made her feel calm and at ease. A process she knew how to do completely, to the point it just felt ‘natural’, much like the feeling she figured a lot of the soldiers had when it came to them disassembling cleaning and then reassembling their guns.
It was something she knew, something that had no variables she couldn’t 100% account for. Something that would leave a nice shiny product in the end, and make one feel like they accomplished something, even if it had been done thousands of times before. And now especially, with her tactile feel much more heightened compared to any of the other times she did this, it felt even better. The smooth metal being held in one's hand, the texture of the cloth as it glided along the various smudges and dirt marks. The motions themselves and the application of pressure, it was something most every organic she knew took for granted. But it was something she’d grown acutely aware of just how much she was missing, and while she was upset at that fact initially, it quickly made way to simply enjoying the fact that she could find new and proper enjoyment in just the act of being alive.
Because that was always a question she found hard to answer. Being made from technology, could she really consider herself alive? Many found it hard to answer that question, but the more she felt, the more she lived through, the more she experienced. The more she could confidently answer that question as yes.
And especially today, going through that entire battle, doing what she needed to, and getting all those thanks...those furs didn’t look at her like she was a tool, they didn’t thank her creator for making her so well. They thanked her, they recognized her. And that alone, was just further proof, that if nothing else, she was really, REALly good, at faking it.
She shook her head a bit, and just giggled a bit softly, as she placed the fully cleaned helmet back on the crate, and picked up the gauntlet as she continued musing. Na, she wasn’t faking it. She knew that, right down to the fact she could write her own code herself. That was what made it different, what made her real. She wasn’t always following a set path, or even a set learning path, she created her own learning paths. She learned and grew just like all the organics, the only difference was she was made of metal, glass and various rubbers, and crystal, whereas the organics just had various kinds of flesh. But, all lead to the same thing, a brain that could think, and a consciousness that formed from that free flowing thought. And with every press of her fingers and every ping in her processors, she knew that she thought, she learned, and she grew. And she was as alive as the rest of them.
Not that anyone but her had really been questioning that lately. Guess that’s another thing to go off of, she giggles.
As her thinking fully came to a head, her ears perked, and her audio input caught the sound of footsteps coming in her direction. She just sighed, continuing her cleaning, not being too worried, as the door to the makeshift arsenal opened, and in stepped Jack.
“H-hello mam…I-I was told I could likely find you here.” He stated slowly, Eria looking up with a bit of surprise.
“Up so soon?” She asked back, the canid nodding, wincing a bit but showing his patched up shoulder.
“It went clean through, got lucky and it didn’t hit anything major, just needed a few stitches and I was good.” He nodded, Eria just giving him a warm smile.
“That's good, I’m very glad to hear that.” she giggled, the canid staring down at the floor and rubbing the back of his head a bit, as he gulped a little, with Eria just sitting there, waiting a bit and about to say something before Jack finally spoke up once again.
“S-SOO I’m going to be heading over to psychiatric, I-I think I definitely need it..b-but I wanted to ask.” He stated, looking up at Eria now with a partial pleading look. “I-is that dinner, still on the table?”
Eria blinked at him, her mind within nanoseconds going back and remembering that exact action occurring, but her mind realistically taking a little bit to let the moment sink in, before she broke into a giggle, and laughed. The canids ears drooped a little bit at the laughter, turning a little before Eria nodded her head quickly and quited herself enough to bark out a:
“YES yes of course! Haah I said I would so I happily will! Though I’m not sure I can treat you too much around here outside of the standard rations.”
Jack’s ears immediately perked up at her confirmation, with his tail beginning to wag rapidly.
“R-really?!? You weren’t just saying that?!?”
“Course not, I’m not one to go back on my word!” Eria laughed, giving Jack a wink as the canid blushed a little bit. “As soon as I get done here, and you go through that check up, I’ll be happy to treat you to the finest rations we are allowed to have!”
“O-okk! Yeah! W-will be back later then! See yea!” Jack giggled, his tail wagging a bunch as he quickly made his way out the door, bonking his shoulder and wincing with a whine but his step undeterred, as he practically bounced out of the arsenal as Eria just finished up her laugher.
“Oh my, ohh I was not expecting that.” Eria giggled, a hand on her muzzle as her own inbuilt blush formed on her face. “Gosh didn’t think he’d actually remember that with the state he was in, well I guess I have more charms than I give myself credit for.” She chuckles, pressing her hand away from her face again as she pushed the cloth back against the gauntlet she was holding, continuing the cleaning process as she just continued to muse and giggle to herself about the coming nights events. And as she did, she no longer had any doubts left in her mind.
Yep, she was very, very alive indeed...and very happy to be so.
