The Sergal Class Cruiser is a medium sized Heavy Combat cruiser in the Animalia Universe. The Ship is classified as the only modern ship in Animalia, by the end of the 5 year war. It is also the heaviest Medium sized Cruiser that entered mass production.



Development:


Development of the Sergal Class Cruiser begins in early 2016. By request of the Shigu navy, under the navy modernization efforts, Shigu engineers were tasked with designing a heavy cruiser that would weigh at least 20.000 tons. The original ship was planned to carry either 3 or 4 turrets wielding 155mm guns in triple configurations or 190mm in dual configurations. However, development of the ship was plagued by delays and other issues during this period, with the project being haulted in September 2016 with the the rushed introduction of the Nevrean (“Neuria”) Class Destroyers. It was later resumed in June 2017, and during this time, the ship received quad torpedo tubes, and the newly created Rocket AA systems. In July 2017 the ship received a temporary approval from the Shigu Admirality to be constructed and tested around Reono’s coast. During this time, Reono engineers had also joined the project, and decided to construct the prototype at “Galicia” Shipyards, in Reono once fully approved. In September 2017 the ship was delayed again due to the lack of suitable materials and the lack of planned armament. Finally, in late September the ship was fully approved by the Admirality to wield an experimental turret with 2 152mm auto loading Naval guns. The construction of the Prototype officially began in December 2017.


-Prototype: “The Calypso”


The prototype Sergal Class Cruiser was completed in March 2018. The ship was completed with a brand new weapons system, known as AEGIS, that underwent trials as early as in 2016 in Adleria, and finally received approvals to be mounted on the prototype, by request of the Navy. The ship was completed at berth 4 in Reono’s “Galicia Shipyards” and it was met with a lot of happiness by the Shigu’s public and Navy. Unlike the planned production versions, the Prototype ship weighed 32.500 tons upon completion. The Cruiser was finally launched 3 weeks later after its completion due to the final touches being delayed due to the war strain. The ship was named “Calypso” and given the registration number #150. The ship underwent trials around the harbor and territorial waters of Silviria. The Ship, despite having a small caliber armament for her main gun,compensated with the high rate of fire, and great penetration the gun offered. It was perfect for long and medium range combat. Additionally it was decided to completely remove all Flak Guns and install 4 rocket AA pods both on Starboard and Port sides. With these modifications, the ship looked unique and required no additional AA defenses for the rest of the war. The most notable operation the Calypso took, happened during 16th June 2018, when the ship spotted a small Merryweather espionage vessel outside Silviria. Commanding Captain Yui Inokashira (Northen Sergal Captain) pursued the vessel and ordered a sinking of the spy vessel. Around midnight the Calypso, was joined by 2 Nevrean class destroyers and a helicopter from the 15th Shigu airbase. During this battle, the Calypso reached it’s top speed of 36kn and caught up to the small vessel. After a short exchange of fire between the vessels, the Calypso came on top, sinking the enemy vessel, and sustaining no damage. The Calypso proved the Sergal class was reliable, fast and powerful, and it was now fully approved for construction in mass. For the sinking, Yui Inokashira was approved to command a fully upgraded Sergal Class ship, and the he became the first official Captain of the Sergal class ships. After the war, the Calypso was preserved as a training vessel in Silviria until the present day, once all extra trials have been completed. She still continues her career to this day.


-Production Models:


All production models have different loadouts. Most notably is the introduction of the VLS system and the AEGIS technology, given by the Adlerians as Their newest Standardized system for all ships. During the war, only 12 Sergal Class Ships were fully completed, with the modern technologies, however they played a key role in supporting the Adlerian Naval advances in Equestria and Lupinia, sinking countless enemy ships and destroying hundreds of Aircraft. Finally, when the war ended in November 2018, all other planned Sergal Class Ships were haulted but resumed construction later on until 2021. In total, 127 Sergal Class Ships were fully completed during the Navy modernization Programme, with 10 of them being given to the navy of the URV. Overall, the performance of the production models can’t be questioned, as it proved excellent. The Shigu and the Vilousians praised the Ship as the best cruiser ever made, and it established a good reputation for the Shigu/Vilousian crews and it’s builders. The vessel continues serving the Shigu Navy, and the Navy of the United Republics to this day. Yui’s ship the first production ship ever built, a Vessel named in the honor of president Snow was also given to Adleria by 2021. The Sergal Class ships were a pinnacle of Engineering, served in time of need, and became of symbol of pride and efficiency for the Shigu navy for the years to come.


Unmarked Ships:



Unmarked Sergal Class Ships are new vessels built after 2019, and they contain new technologies, like improved radar and sonar systems, upgraded Aegis Systems, and new torpedoes. The ships have no other AA defenses other than the standard rocket AA systems. In comparison with the other vessels, unmarked ships often prove to be more reliable and faster due to the new propulsion systems. There are only a few unmarked ships currently in service...

As depicted above, the ship must undergo secret testing, however, when called into mission, it will display Navigation Ensigns to state their purpose. Here is what the flags mean:
