He had outlived friends and family, and had lost parts of himself. The sadness waned in time.
And even when he made new ones, time had them fade as well. However, Rafe was not as sad anymore.
It was a cycle he had come to understand, the repetition until he was numb to it all.
He watched his fellow siblings and friends grow, rise and fall, they and their humanity, generation after generation, repeating their mistakes, and his feelings just... petered out over time.
Despite that, he would be there for them. Taking solace in the fact. His martyrdom.
It did not get easier.
But eventually, after some time. Despite the idolatry, being surrounded by and even painted in her image...
He had found moments, little pieces of her life, that reminded him in the most subtle ways.
Faint memories, a dream, or belonging of hers...
They would be mementos like the red tattered silk cloth, or simple, silly, or dumb events he would slowly recall.
And be they happy or sad, he'd have wanted to cry.
But they were pieces of her, and he held them tight.
And they were there, with him. Even though she was gone.
Oh but there was such a war inside his head
As he drowned within the ocean of regret
When the sun came down across the Tatla desert
He held onto his empty veiled crown
And the people sang
"Rain lives in Death"
"Rain lives in Rafe"
[...]No child should watch their parent go to war. When the love of a mother for their own child is outweighed by the thirst for bloodshed, are they beyond redemption?
Theme for this piece: Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust
Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh...
When the world is burning!
Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh...
When the heart is yearning!
Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh!
When my world is burning!
Don't walk away, don't walk away, oh!
When my heart is yearning!
