well the term hitbox is pretty outdated since in most cases it is no longer a actual box around the model but pretty much the outer layer of the edge, like literally skin tight. that leads to some games having literal hitbox porn where certain boss abilities can be dodged by quick selecting certain emotes like going on your knees to pray to dodge a giant blade that would hit you square in the chest otherwise. looking at you there dark souls.
Nah, they still use hitboxes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TJmiDcsxdA
If they didn't they would have way more polygons to calculate and tank your machine on each interaction.

Those are both excellent answers truth be told. I always prefer ladies of more so in games or classes/races that did not doll them up. Like Charr from Guild wars. more so if they weren't automatically weaker then the males.
Sure PSO2 is pretty bikini armory in someplace, but you can be a big sword wielding wall of F-you that 'will not' fall and can bring the hurt.

As a guy, World of Warcraft scarred me. Play as a guy? No, gross. They are all roided out freaks. The girls have better animations and the armors look better as well. That and I learned later I'm gynephilic, so that fed into it. Then the cherry on top is that I see the character I make as a separate entity that I control and protect. And I feel more motivated to protect a woman than a big beefy dude.
I used to get into trouble in some FPS games because of that. I honestly didn't know they had smaller hitboxes, I got hit often enough. But some people will ban you for playing a female. no matter what your actual gender. or be cause "everyone knows girls don't play games, and when they do they play guys" or some shit. Excuse the language. I was in more than one all girl clans so it just gets me angry sometimes.
It is more common than a lot of people think. Gender switching not only occurs in gaming, but also in chat rooms and things like Second Life. Far from being an expression of someone (male or female) having homosexual tendencies, it has been found to be a matter of curiosity and often, the temporary rejection of a cultural stereotype.
A lot of people wonder, what would it be like to be the opposite gender for a day, or a week. That isn’t a sign of sexual preference but more of a creative and empathetic personality. In one study, a survey was done to compare a gamer’s character with the actual person. The most striking difference was a pre-teen who was paraplegic, and could not leave his bed for more than a few minutes. He always played the big, strong arrow catcher of the party and was the first to rush into battle. In some cases females played male characters because they felt other gamers took them more seriously.

For me, in World of Warcraft, I chose the character's gender based on the role I wanted the character to play. Agile and sneaky rogue, inspirational healer, or perhaps a devious warlock? I associate some of those traits with females. Big, brute force characters, like warriors or paladins will usually be a guy. This is our course not a hard and fast rule, just a tendency. Especially in WoW, where that trait is entirely aesthetic, and has no major impact on gameplay.
(P.s. I felt the male Nelf had the best shield welding animations in game, at least through cataclysm)

Hey, I was THERE when the animated movie 'Heavy Metal' hit the theaters.
I still have a crush on Taarna!
And, 'cause I feel compelled to share-
Heavy Metal and Taarna (and her weird, vulture thing mount)
"Taking a Ride!"

There is an old gamer joke about how in female armor, the less it covers the higher the armor class. And then there was the introduction of ‘jiggle physics’ to games like ‘Street Fighter’. When Diablo first came out, I usually played a female character because they had a range weapon (a bow) that allowed attacks from a distance. It had nothing to do with character design or how they looked.
When the new Wonder Woman movie was set to come out, there was some question as to how ‘bulky’ the actress would be be. Some people mistook this as people thinking ‘A woman has to big and butch to be a superhero’. In fact, the speculation, at least from comments I heard (or read) was if the character was going to be as over muscled, steroid driven body type as the male superhero, but with big boobs.

I beg to differ: male armor didn't used to have that much customization to it; back when Bald Grizzled Military Man Shooters were all the rage, it all looked like the same blocky, square-cornered, drab color of grey. Male armor would attach a clunky, square cube and call it "an ammo pack", when the women's armor made it look like IT ACTUALLY FIT on their person/armor/belt.
It's better now, but women's armor always seems to have a tad more customization.
