My boyfriend wanted me to write cuter stories so I gave this a shot. Using his OC Slint.
A fairly young human male was walking around the mall, one of the few luxuries he got from his overprotective boyfriend. Sporting a nice round bump on his stomach. He made his way to a little maternity shop, being welcomed immediately.
“Hi! Welcome to Heirs! Where we have everything expecting parents need” the womanly red panda clerk smiled
“Hi,” He said back nervously
“Are you looking for anything in particular? Perhaps we can set up a wish list?”
He felt nervous, “Umm, I’m… ugh… no. I don’t think I need a wishlist. I do need some new shirts.”
“Alright, sir! Our maternity blouses are over here.” She turned leading him over to an area of the store
“oh no I’d like shirts, not blouses…” he was stammering nervously
“Don’t worry sir, we have a wide array of male blouses for the expecting fathers. “They’re roomier so you can grow into them if need be.” She pulled at a sleeve of one blouse “this one is good for late-term pregnancies.”
“Oh, I’m, ugh. Haha, I just entered my second trimester.”
She gasped apologizing, “ oh I’m so sorry, that must be one large baby, you poor man.”
“It’s… twins…” He tried to say under his breath.
She looked at him, just barely catching it, “wow twins! Congratulations! Oh! Over here is our multiples selection and we have them sorted by trimester, with the multiples on the tags.”
“Oh thank you,” he replied nervously.
“If you need anything feel free to ask as an associate sir!”
He just smiled at her as she headed back to the front of the store. He could hear her welcome another customer. He was looking at the assortment of soft pastel colors, floral designs, more feminine than he would like. The more He looked at it, the more uncomfortable it made him feel. Remembering a conversation he had a few days earlier with his boyfriend. He could vividly see the muscly polar bear telling him, “You should invest in maternity clothes babe” rang in his head. He didn’t want to lose his masculinity even if he’s pregnant.
He didn’t even notice the presence walking up behind him, and with a soft and gentle voice he called out, “Page?”
He jumped a little, turning he recognized that voice. Standing at his back was a young grey-haired fox. The fox stood shorter than him. A bright smile on his face sporting a pastel blouse that his pregnant belly was pushing out of. He couldn’t believe the size, that shirt fox looked like he was carrying a watermelon mixed with a beach ball.
“Ugh… S… Slint?” He replied
“It is you Page! Oh my god, I can’t believe you’re pregnant” Slint started to go to his side to hug Page.
“Slint … you’re…”
“Oh this Yeah,” Slint let out a little chuckle “they make narrow paths a little tricky.”
Page was speechless. “You’re! What?”
Slint smiled, placing a hand on Page's belly. “I can’t believe you’re pregnant. Congratulations. How far along?”
“Um… second trimester. I… Umm… you, um… fuck you’re huge.”
Slint replied, “Haha what can I say my fiancé is, determined to say the least.”
“I” he Paused for a moment. “Umm okay, umm I don’t go by Page anymore. And umm I may be carrying twins but, fucking Jesus you must have a whole army in there.”
Slint started to laugh covering his mouth. “No way twins?” Slint was speechless for a moment “that’s amazing, I’m happy for you”
“Yeah, you too. I mean I’m happy for that uh football team in there.”
“It’s not a football team Tyler. Wow, it sounds so weird to call you that now.” Slint replied
Tyler told him, “Yeah, well I had a lot happen to me and I really cleaned up my life.”
“That’s great. I’m glad you’re doing better now, right?” Slint asked curiously
“Yeah, I um officially came out so I’m not closeted anymore. And I got a new boyfriend and we… we’ve been happy. Well happy enough to put these two in me. I mean ugh.”
“I get it” Slint grabbed his hands gently. “I'm happy for you. Um not to change the subject but did you wanna catch up, maybe grab a bite. Get off both of our feet?”
“Oh yeah, We should. Haha.” Tyler felt sorry for Slint, “It’s gotta be a lot carrying all them around.
Slint and Tyler walked out, as Slint casually said they’d be back, the babies were hungry. Luckily for them, the food court wasn’t too far from Heir. Slint’s order was large, a couple of mothers and fathers taking notice of him. “Oh my you poor dear, they must be such a burden”, “Holy cow that guy did a number on your womb huh guy”, “Wow you look so amazing, such a vibrant glow”, “I hope you roped that man for putting you through that pregnancy.” Just a few of the comments he got from just trying to get a meal. A Couple gave up their table for Slint and Tyler to sit at and eat.
“I’m thirty-one weeks with sextuplets,” Slint said proudly
“Holy shit” Tyler paused. “Aren’t you supposed to… you know deliver by now?”
“My doctor said I should be okay. I’m not having any circulatory issues. I’m not having any issues with it, all the kids are healthy. He says there isn’t a reason I can’t carry them a bit longer.”
“Geez, and here I am thinking twins are too much.”
“You’d be surprised,” Slint said cheerfully with a chuckle “So tell me about daddy,”
“Well, his name is Ilya. We met at the gym funny enough. He’s a fitness coach, he’s a bit overprotective but I know he just wants them to be healthy.”
“And are they?”
“Yep, a couple of little polar bear cubs cooking away.”
“A Polar bear?!” Slint was surprised
“Oh yeah, He’s probably training right now, otherwise he’d be blowing up my phone, with ‘Did you eat that Chinook Salmon I bought you you know you’re gonna need it in case you get an Iron deficiency.’ or ‘Remember to only workout for less than twenty minutes and only use the five bound weights’.”
“He sounds like he just wants to make sure you’re okay,” Slint said in between bites of his large meal.
“Yeah, I wish he wouldn’t. Since I got pregnant it’s been about the kids and I feel like he’s forgetting me.”
“Well,” Slint took a swig of his drink, “you can always tell him that I’m sure he’d understand.”
Tyler replied, “Yeah, I do like that Ilya got more cuddly though.”
“See, it's nice to be the little spoon.”
Tyler took a pause. Slint had to adjust himself as he tried to pull his phone out of his back pocket. Answering a quick text. Tyler’s mood got somber for a moment. “Um Hey Slint”
“Hmm” Slint looked up at him
“I just wanna say I’m sorry. When we dated I was an awful person. Between the drinking and the fighting, and me not being as open. It was. I was.” He paused “I was such a shitty person and I should never have been like that to you. You were amazing and you shouldn’t have had to put up with me like that.”
“But look at you now” Slint replied calmly “If we didn’t break up then I’m sure we wouldn’t have gone down the road we did. I don’t have any ill will towards you. And I know your actions weren’t just caused by a lot. The drinking never really bothered me, but I did love you. A part of me still does but, you and I needed to move on. You don’t need to be sorry about that. You wouldn’t have met Ilya when you did and I wouldn’t have met Tián”
“Is that the dad?”
“Mmhmm” Slint replied “He is a wonderful snow leopard. He’s great with kids. At least the ones I’ve seen him around”
Tyler smirked, “that’s good then, right?”
“Of course, He’s a wonderful man. He told me on our first date he wanted a big family. I should’ve known something was up when he started slipping fertility drugs in all the meals and drinks he made me.”
“ He did that?” Tyler seemed shocked.
“Yeah, but I did tease him about it first. He really liked the idea of a heavily pregnant fox carrying around his numerous kittens.”
“Sounds like something you would do.”
“Yeah. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“How did you and Tea-n meet?” Tyler asked
“Tián. Oh, the usual way, he ran into me at a class I was taking. He was standing outside and It seemed like fate. He came right up to me and in the cringiest way just said to me ‘It’s handy that I have my library card because I’m totally checking you out’.”
Tyler nearly spat out the drink he had in his mouth. Struggling to swallow it down. “Fuck, He. He said that?”
“Oh yeah, he thought he was so slick. I burst into laughter. We got coffee and we just hit it off. It was. Amazing. He even proposed in front of my parents after the week I found out I was pregnant.”
“Sounds romantic,” Tyler said happily
The two were silent for a moment.
“I hope you’ll stay long enough to meet him,” Slint said casually
“I mean I should be, well I mean Ilya hasn’t called yet worried about me so I mean I don’t mind a little trip.”
Slint cut him off, “Oh No he’s gonna be here in a little bit,”
“Oh, uh. Sure I guess. I can meet him.”
The two finished up their meals and started making their way back over to Heir. Slint picked out a few maternity blouses he thought were cute. Even encouraged Tyler to pick up a few of the soft blue colors of the blouses. As much as it might be his usual style - he thought to himself that he did look very good in them. Slint even got distracted by a rocking chair and a changing station. Mentioning he already picked out the ones he wanted. But he had to see them because they looked cute. Slint was first to check out having a wonderful time talking with the clerks. Mentioning his potential ideas for baby names and how it’s hard to find the ones he really liked.
Tyler was up Next.
“There’s my baby oven.” A male voice rang out from behind them both
It was unfamiliar to Tyler. But To Slint “Hey babies”
“Mommy” a little girl’s voice rang out.
Tyler turned back to the source puzzled. He saw the snow leopard towering over Slint. Believing that must be Tián. But in Tián’s arms was a toddler. She looked a little like Slint. A Tiny little grey-haired fox, in a bright pink dress. Tyler was taken aback by this. Even missing the clerk informing him on his price. Making him quickly pay and leave.
Tyler didn’t know what to say. He saw Slint happily expecting a litter of six, his snow-leopard boyfriend carrying a little grey fox just like Slint. He right walked right up to the happy little family. “Wow. I umm, wow. So. You must be Tián. Slint told me all about you. Well not all, a bit.” Tyler was nervous
“And You must be Tyler, It’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” Tián said, extending his free hand for a handshake.
The two shook hands.
“Slint, you didn’t tell me you.”
“Oh yeah didn’t I mention that? Sorry, I must’ve spaced on that one” Slint said, taking the toddler out of Tián’s arm. “This is Alys. She was born just after Tián and I met. Can you say Hi to Mommys friend” he said playfully to his little girl
“Hi fwend,”
They all smiled, Slint planting a little kiss on her cheek.
“I guess that’s why you’re so knowledgeable about all this pregnancy stuff,” Tyler said
“Yup, Alys was my first” Slint said happily “she reminds me so much of her daddy. Don’t you think so?”
“I don’t know who that could be, there's no way, we haven’t spoken to each other in three…” Tyler looked at her.
He had always remembered Slint for his Amber eyes. Yet Alys had bright blue eyes. Just like he did. “Is… is she mine?”
Slint got quiet. A small smile appeared on his face.
“I found out shortly after we broke up. Lamaze classes, maternity yoga. I did them all alone. That’s when I met Tián. He was outside of my Lamaze class. And We hit it off. When I gave birth I thought about putting her up for adoption. But the moment I saw her. I… I just couldn’t let her go.” Slint was getting emotional “I wanted to tell you. I just didn’t know how. When you came with me to lunch I knew I had to get her down here to meet you.”
Tyler started to get teary-eyed. “She’s…”
“She’s yours,” Slint said joyfully
“Mommy cwy.”Alys got out
“Yes, baby mommy’s crying. But this is a happy cry sweetie,”
Slint offered if Tyler wanted to hold her. He declined, still in a bit of shock about finding out he had a little girl. The four of them started to make their way out of the mall. Stopping at an intersection. Slint handed Alys back to Tián. “I hope we can see you again. I’d love it if you’d still be a part of Alys’ life.”
“Yeah, I. Umm.” Tyler paused for a moment “I’d love to.”
They each wished each other goodbye and started to head their separate ways. As Tyler made his way out of the mall he heard his phone ring. It was Ilya.
“Hey sweetie,” he said into the receiver
“Hey babe, finishing up I should be home soon. Hope you had a good day.”
“I did, I went out and got a couple of blouses and I want you to come with me to take a look at a few crib ideas I had.”
“Wow babe that sounds amazing,” Ilya responded
“Yeah, I met my ex. We had a good talk. I. I got to apologize for who I was when he and I dated.”
“That’s wonderful babe, DId you eat while you were out.”
“I did” Tyler replied
“Wow, who are you and what have you done to my boyfriend?” Ilya let out a little chuckle
“It’s me I swear.”
Ilya replied “That’s good, when I get home let’s work on some prenatal,”
“Actually sweetie, when you get home can we. Can we talk?”
“Um yeah sure. Is everything okay?”
“Everythings fine, Ilya. I just wanna tell you all about how my day went. See you in a bit?”
“Of course babe, see you soon. I love you”
“I… We love you too.”
