Image depiction of the Emperor on the throne of the seven continents, commissioned shortly after the founding of Eden. At the time not realised to be a sign of his future ambitions.
Takara journal entry: #00582
I became the Emperor's bodyguard shortly after the Yakuza had been bought out by Arno industries. This was before the stock wars had begun, and he was just “The client”, a wealthy elite who wanted highly-trained, militarized, personal security.
I remember thinking that perhaps he was paranoid, or wanted to appear more intimidating to others by always having a heavily-armed security detail with him.
To start with, my role was to protect from afar. To hide in plain sight and see potential threats before they had even begun, while the biggest and most intimidating members of our squadron remained by his side.
It wasn’t until time went on, and the assassination attempts became more frequent as more & more people wanted him dead that I was eventually moved to his personal division. Numbers of our group had gradually been shrinking over time, as the client slowly narrowed our crew down to an elite few that he trusted the most.
Eventually, only I remained. To this day, I don’t know if everything before that was just a testing process, sounds like something he’d do...
Before the transition was official, he took me aside for an interview in his main office.
He told me everything
He told me what he was going to do, how he was going to do it, and why. He told me the things that I was going to see if I was going to become his personal bodyguard; the atrocities I’d see him commit, the things he was going to do to people, the suffering he was going to inflict upon billions…
He said throughout my employment, I had performed above and beyond the standards he had deemed satisfactory when it came to my skills and professionalism in regards to ensuring his safety and security. It was out of respect for this, that if I decided I didn’t want to keep working for him, no harm would come to me.
I renewed my contract of course, I was too terrified not to. Having grown to know him more personally over the years, I think he would have kept his promise if I had turned him down, but I still believe not taking his offer would have been a stupid thing to do. People who worked for him were always treated respectfully, he made sure that you were looked after; he considered it a contractual obligation.
But if you interfered with his plan, you were gotten rid of. Every wrinkle was ironed out, every loose end taken care of by design. Needing to find a new bodyguard might delay certain plans, events and meetings may have to be postponed…
It was safer to agree
Salvation lay in subservience...
