The feeling of looking into a mirror and seeing your ideal self is indescribable.
That is the feeling I have when I'm in VRChat with a headset and full body tracking. The dragon in the mirror is me. It's a bit euphoric. For the first time ever, apart from dreams, I can truly feel like the dragon I am. Incredible. It's the dream for a dragonkin like me. I never even knew this could be possible until I was already doing it.
One thing to note is that I would be a feral dragon if it were physically possible, but it unfortunately is completely impractical in VR. I'm a purely feral dragon at heart, so this was something disappointing I just had to accept. However, I'm very happy I did, because this is closer than I could ever have imagined to experiencing being a dragon IRL!
It's like... It's me! It's really me. The dragon me, the true me, the ideal me. Again, the feeling is indescribable.
Becoming immersed like this in VR as my dragon self has taken a while! I started with an Oculus Rift S in VRChat, and trying various avatars. However it really stepped up a notch when I got my avatar that matched my ideal self (the one in this picture), and that made me very happy! I finally got a Valve Index, which stepped up my immersion even more. I recently decided I wanted to go all-in and get full body tracking (hips and feet). I made SO much more of a difference than I expected! For the first time, I began to feel like that dragon in the mirror was me, rather my avatar feeling more like a puppet I controlled. I feel a thrill, looking at this picture and seeing it not as just a screenshot or artwork, but a photo of myself. It's wonderful.
So that is the feeling of what it's like to be your dragon self in virtual reality! Indescribable until you experience it. I highly recommend it to my fellow dragonkin.
I have to give big thanks to my friend
Sargon who's guided me a lot on setting up VR. He's a true VR enthusiast and I owe a lot to him! I took this picture after we spent a while chatting in this world last night and he left to sleep.
If you are interested in checking out the avatar base I used, it's the Dranari, made by Hobbert, and it's available here: https://hobbert.gumroad.com/l/hoECZ
My wonderful friend
Lunesnowtail also kindly recoloured the base to match me. It wouldn't be the same without that.
Lune is also a fantastic avatar creator in his own right! Please check out his streams at https://twitch.tv/lunesnowtail

I love these kinds of stories. Thank you for sharing. VR is such a transformative space and the people I've seen grown from their totally panicked insecurity over socializing, to confident social butterfly. Or a cold emotionless cage opening up to be this incredibly emotional and loving sensitive and free being that just melts your heart. I can't tell you how much VR has done for me; through seeing myself as female and feeling that connection with yourself on a much deeper level on a gender basis, as well the people I've met who I owe everything to for the life I lead now. Even just yesterday actually, I moved into my new roommate's place who I met in this space. I'm really glad that you could find the peace and thrill that comes with seeing your true self!
I feel like VR is only just getting started too! Who knows how much better it's going to get from here. Socialising with people in VR actually fills the gap in a way that phone and video calls are unable to, I never even knew it could do that until I experienced it for myself! And you get to interact with people in what can be their ideal form if they want. It's a way to express yourself and interact with others in a manner capable of being more "real" than real life, in the sense that we can't be dragons (or other creatures) IRL. For me, I get to express this deeply-felt dragon part of myself that's always been there, but has never found a proper avenue. I think I prefer it to fursuiting too, although I never had a dragon one (as I didn't want to be a non-anthro dragon).
I just can't wait to let myself become more immersed in this aspect of "self"! It's wonderful.

Hey, I know exactly what you mean!
I'm in the process of creating my own avatar and while there is still a lot missing like even textures, I was recently able to test it in VRChat for the first time with full body tracking and it was just amazing! Even without textures ^^
It really feels like it's me! ^^
So nice to see other people having the same experience.
