Laguna And Idoia - By Faolche
Faolche drew this picture of Laguna and Idoia.I had a particular attachment to this one because it shows something i am always keenly aware of whenever i use technology but something which promoters always seem to forget.
So i wanted to show Idoia having "technical problems" heating up so much even using skin is a problem and being barely able to focus, while Laguna is trying to help her get at least dressed so that they can get to the shop to get her fixed without the "shame" of showing up like "a piece of broken machinery".
That is going to eat up Idoia's work days and also their savings. Laguna seriously hopes the components will not have to be cheap third party stuff... but originals are scarce because they are both too old and out of the production line.

Laguna Pamu Character originally designed by
EWGengster (please note the original character was part of a "race" that does not exist in my "universe" i bought my character "for the looks" and is therefore here shown doing stuff which is non-canon for that race, such as: "wearing clothing" and "being a robot" 😅)• Support The Artist Here: https://www.patreon.com/ewgengster

Essentially the way i see it is something deceptively simple but terrifying.
The thermometers stopped working for "unknown reasons" (if they knew they could have fixed it).
So she had two choices, turn all the fans to maximum or risk overheating and breaking something without knowing.
The second was unacceptable, but she still had her work to do and she even if "calling in sick" this was a non-stopping problem, so she had to finish what she was doing before leaving.
So she ran her fans to maximum to close up everything and get back home for assistance.
But running your fans to maximum means "speed-running clogging".
So by the time she came back home for assistance she was already running hot and smelling like burnt dust, which meant that the heat sinks were already accumulating burnt residue.
Laguna confirmed she could do nothing so she shut Idoia down, then Laguna cleaned her insides best she could, knowing there will be some burnt dust residue on those heat sinks which is unavoidable in these cases but she did not have the special cleaning apparati for that and since Idoia is a luxury model her heat sinks are... particularly fragile (euphemism) as they are very thin sheets very close together to maximize area per volume, unlike Idoia which being an economy model has... a lot more endurance and cheap stuff inside of her, her heat sinks have a lot less surface area and can be easily brushed without damaging them. Heck they could bend and still be easily straightened without affecting the air flow, which is unthinkable for the heat sinks Idoia has.
On startup they decided to just shut down everything non-essential and so right now she is little more than a drunken doll that needs to be dressed and follows Laguna around but at least with so much of her being shut down or on standby and without skin, just the jacket she will also be (relatively) cool and accumulate very little dust inside so that there is as little burnt residue as possible accumulating on those fragile heat sinks.
So technically right now Idoia is not running hot, but the problems were caused by her having had to run increasingly hot for a while, and her "drunken" behaviour is a side effect of the precautions taken to avoid damage.
Remember. They are both old models 16+ years after the end of the production run. They cannot afford expensive replacements... and Idoia is... particularly expensive.

Oh jeez. That's a predicament.
All in all it sounds great that they found each other to trust with this, though. Poor Idoia! Hope she gets fixed up soon, and hope the parts aren't too expensive or hard to replace!
Thanks for the write-up <3
Do the both of them tend to run into these kinds of issues often due to their age, then?

They are both nearing 30... so... uh... yeah.
They are ancient by machine standards.
Even if the tech had plateau-ed (which i have not decided yet) the very fact that their production line has ended 16+ years before means finding the correct parts is really hard.
And they have to be manufactured. Which incidentally is exactly what "Planning for Obsolescence" will be about. 😅
