For today's #ThrowbackThursday, I wanted to share one of my favorites! This Oil painting was a project for a college course some time around 2014. It was an abstract project focusing on an arrangement of numbered shapes in randomly created patterns. Each number was assigned a specific style of technique and color such as using more medium to make the paint thinner or scraping it on using a palette knife.

For my project, I decided to use a figurative image of a Jaguar to separate the warm toned shapes from the cool toned shapes and create a stylized imagery. More abstract than my usual work, this project was one of my favorites to work on and pushed my use of the material.

Oil paints, along with charcoals, are my favorite medium to work in. I have been aching to work with them once more as I find the longer drying time and ability to blend the paint much more applicable to my style than acrylic paints. Once this next round of commissions is complete, I hope to have the time to reorganize the painting area of my studio and finally add oils back into my practices. 🥰❤️🎨 Fun fact! This painting was one first backgrounds for my business cards! 😁
