Here is a small hand adze I made from the head of a cheap claw hammer. I have quite a large collection of claw hammers I have little use for, because I already have two that serve me well enough.
This adze has a bit forged welded onto the claws because there was not enough material to make the blade.
The steel used for the bit was a section of leaf spring.
This small tool is handy for carving parallel to the work piece and in front of you. The same effect can be achieved with a hatchet, but on the side of the workpiece, which is less accurate.
