I think her facial expression says it all. She doesn’t like hurting or roughing up or yknow getting too physical with anyone other than the true criminals she pursues in her daily patrols and calls. But it’s part of her job, and just one of her struggles. The conflict gets deeper when you read more about French politics and stuff and learn that a few years back there was a large firefighter protest and riot, sometimes where they’d set themselves (in their fire suit uniforms) on fire in demonstration, and that Gabrielle’s brother is a firefighter. That means there’s a possibility he’d have been on the opposite end of the street, looking at her in her riot gear as he fights for what he believes in. She’s got a lot of internal struggles, a lot of conflicts between her own sense of right and wrong and what she’s obligated to do as an officer, and what she has to do if she ever plans to promote to Inspector some day.
