I made a mistake. One-inch-thick upholstery foam is thin for a seat cushion or for a solid foam sculpture... but compared to the already-sculpted details I want to stick foam to, it's thick!
I'm going to keep sticking it on anyway, and I'll see how the whole put-together shape looks before I decide what to do next. There's more than one possible thing to do.
