Commonwealth Knights"Your armor, Curdan. It is made pristine and white, like snow. Yet, snow doesn't protect against the thrust of a spear, nor the slash of a Kerk's falchion. My armor is, yes, covered in 'mud and dirt', but it protects me far better than that gilded foolery you wear. Your serfs need to clean you daily, to make yourself your breakfast, and tend to your every whim. My servant? My servant is that former slave levy from Rosarug over there when they last invaded my land. The ratfolk. He joins me in battle. Mock it as much as you wish, imperial scion, but your not worth the muck on my boots." -Commonwealth Knight, Arguing with a Curdan KnightEstan had a different view of nobility than their Curdan overlords had. The Estani view the contract of nobility as a position that isn't inherited, but earned by blood. When the Estani were freed from elven rule, they had embraced the warrior culture of the Curdans in their own way. Estani knights earned their positions by merit rather than by the prestige of their orders, relying on the patronage of their loyal lords. Estani knights had orders, but not to the same extent as the Curdans had. Estan knights came from both nobility and peasantry alike, as instead of a landed soldiery who were autonomous from the nobles, the knights of the Commonwealth were overseers and armed landlords connected firmly with their lords.
Estani knights differed greatly in skill, experience, and armor from their Curdan counterparts. Where a Curdan Knight sought a strong reputation, the Estani knight sought victory. Estan Knights rarely hyped up their own legends, as they wore more casual armor and lighter gear. Having to fight the reckless Kerks ten at a time, Estan Knights lived in battle more often than even the war hungry Curdans. Estan Knights were not always as skilled or as fancy in their fighting as Curdan Knights were, nor did they always ride on horseback, but they made up for their faults with sheer zeal and pragmatic fighting which could quickly slap down most foes. Estan Knights often proudly proclaim 'The westerners adorn their armor to kill serfs, we done armor to kill Kerks'. This saying is partly true, as Estan Knights often exclusively train to fight the zealous Kerkian Blackshirts and their host of conscript followers.
Yet the Kerks are not the only foe that the Commonwealth must face, as Rosarug has more than once cross beyond the great river to challenge the 'barbarian east'. Wether through fighting their orcish minions who surge from the north or find themselves flanked by imperial dwarves, the Estan Knight have fought off several attempts to takes chunks out of their homeland. Estani knights are not fully chivalric, and few rarely keep to a loose code of honor, as their main foe rarely take prisoners and do not expect the same in return. Yet for Rosarug and Empara Curdia, they often leave many prisoners, usually that of other races on the footsteps of destroyed war camps. Estani Knights are often well known to take elves, beastfolk, half-kerks, gnolls, and even goblins as squires and companions who had once been servants or slaves of their foes, often joining them in battle and aiding in the menial work of their camps.
