Backstory:
Maria was kidnapped by Darius and his cult to be used as a sacrifice to a demon. During her capture, Maria was tortured and mutilated, losing her ability to speak. Maria managed to escape before the sacrifice, but was pursued by cultists. Polvere bumped into Maria by chance and took her in, providing shelter from the cultists. Polvere trained under their father to treat her wounds and illnesses, but never found any success. Maria was never able to tell them of the cult, but remained safe until Arthur left Tranquility's Coast, after which the cult came after her and Polvere. She took Polvere and ran towards Boschi, believing it would be safe from the cult. Maria never made it to safety as the couple was ambushed in the Boschi Forest. Maria sacrificed herself to prevent Polvere from being murdered by bug florrenci. The experience left Polvere mentally scared for the rest of their life.
