Autumn was arriving and the first leaves lost their green colours. The grass started to dry and rain was more frequent. Averie was taking a walk through the park, their eyes open to find any familiar figures. It has been two years since they spent proper quality time with two of their old friends from highschool. The orange grumpus was nervous of the reunion. Would their friends resent them for distancing themselves from them? After all the times they rejected their help, would they even want to see them again?
Their worries were unfounded when two grumpuses approach Averie. One was brown, quiet and wore a vest, the other small and pink, with a white bandana. Unlike the brown grumpus the pink immediately ran up to the journalist, tears welling in her eyes.
"AVIE!" the pink one hugged the orange grumpus tightly as they let out a loud sob.
The brown grumpus approached Averie and boxed against their shoulder, a loud huff escaping from their throat. Afterwards she joined the group hug as well.
"Lin...Asp..." Averie muttered, as they too broke down in tears.
"Don't you dare going away again!" Asp growled, having to hold back tears as she chastised her friend. "We thought you have died out there!"
"I'm sorry." Averie apologized profusely to their friends. "I'm so sorry for worrying you. I...I promise I won't do that again!"
Afterwards, when the sobbing of Averie and Lin died down, the small friend group ended up laughing out of relief. Then it was decided to go for a walk in the park together and afterwards sitting in a cafe.
Averie had a lot to tell to their two friends, everything what they discovered (except for the existence of the Bugsnax themselves) and making new friends on the island. It would take a while for the snakficiation to wear off (again not mentioning to Asp and Lin), but the orange grumpus did offer for the friends to meet each other one day.
The day turned out to be fine and it was decided to meet each other more frequently.
Only one more hurdle had to be taken care of.
And Averie dreaded that day, feeling shame and guilt when having to face one particular grumpus...
Their own father.
