Months passed by and a lot had happened in Averie's life. Some good things occurred, such as the improvement of their mental state. The nightmares of the car accidents, the bugsnax and the guilt were still present, but over time it might become less frequent. Maybe one day they can forgive themself. The date of the election for the new mayor drew closer and Averie got busier each day to prepare the speeches and campaigns to improve Filbo's chances.
On a snowy day in December the orange grumpus walked through a graveyard with two frost coloured flowers in their paws. Today was a calm day and thus has taken off a bit earlier to pay a visit to someone. Averie did not wear their camera like they used to. Turned out their passion of being a journalist has ran out. Over the months however they re-discovered their passion for dancing, and they still like to do photography.
So, instead of wearing the camera, a necklace was sporting over their neck with two orbs; one being blue-green, the other blue. Soon Averie arrived the location they wanted to go, kneeling in the snow as they placed the flowers gently on a grave.
"Hey Morri." Averie greeted the grave with a bittersweet smile as they looked at the picture on the tombstone. "Hope you're doing alright...whereever you are."
Gently placing a paw on the picture the orange grumpus took a few breathes. Here at this moment they imagine to feel the presence of their beloved twin sister. "Sorry I wasn't there...the past two years were...rough without you..." they began to reminisce.
"I...I felt so lost...I didn't knew what to do...without you. After you died...it felt like my soul was ripped in half..." Averie placed the other paw over their chest, feeling their heart beat.
"I looked for the next big story...wrote article after article...but most got either rejected...or were labelled as lies." A huff escaped and their eyes squinted in brief bitterness.
But soon their bitter expression turned into a more cheerful smile. "This is all in the past now. I...only traveled to Snaktooth Island to save my career...get the next big story...but..."
The orange grumpus closed their eyes, remembering some good, some crazy, but also fond memories. Meeting the others for the first time, bringing everyone back and...giving those a little nudge towards the right direction to solve their personal problems. All of that was...a big accomplishment. Something they felt proud about for the first time since two years.
"I can't believe I grew attached to them." they concluded in satisfaction, looking to the picture. "I found new friends...and one in particular was there for me when my time came to get nudged on the right path." Their face briefly showing a bright pink as they thought about their current roommate...temporarily of course. Just until they found an apartement of their own.
But...do I really want to move out...?
Averie shook those thoughts off and remained silent for a while, staying close to the grave. The weather was cold and snow was falling, but thanks to their thick and fluffy winter fur the orange grumpus wouldn't shiver so fast.
After a while Averie opened their blue-green orbs, blinking to the picture a few times, before bowing their head. "I...I'm looking forward for the coming years and what those would bring." they said, starting to get up on their feet, placing the paw one last time on the tombstone. "Rest in peace, Morri. Love you." Before turning around to leave the graveyard.
The road was long and the future may be unknown. But at least Averie does not have to go the route on their own.
