Part of a warmup sketch page that I felt like coloring.
In the original 2015 plan for my fic there was going to be some NSFW scenes. I was going to outsource those to a friend but in the current version I can't think how a smut scene would improve the story I'm trying to tell.
I kinda like the idea of further down the line Specter smugly throws himself at Spike only to be rejected seguing into a emotion ridden gateway to some of Specters backstory I made up for this... But mostly I just like reasons to actually allow Specter's normally Red Alert light to be a Yellow light or Blue light.

The Alert light colors come in Red, Yellow, and Blue. In the games as you get closer to the apes, alert them, or they find themselves in a stressful situation the light changes from Blue (calm) to Yellow (Alert) to Red (PANIC AT THE DISCO). The context of that becomes interesting to think about when you consider that in some games the red strip of Specter's helmet flashes when you damage him in boss fights so the strip IS an alert light, and the red strip of Specter's helmet is ALWAYS red.
The reason I named the SpikeXSpecter Nannersverse fic "Red Light; Blue Light" was to play on the idea of Specter, despite his presentation and masking it well, is such a chemically imbalanced ball of anxiety and insecurity that his helmet is just eternally defaulted to the unflashing red light. As the story goes on Spike has an almost calming effect on Specter and for the first time that most of the Piposaru have known him, his alert light color begins to shift to yellow and to eventually blue, in a way outing him on his comfort levels around Spike.

It would be post-Blue and Yellow rescue but pre-Pink and White rescue, so by this point Specter would have witnessed his human befriending the Piposaru, Blue, and Yellow, along with smaller interactions with himself that starts putting Specter in that "There's something there that wasn't there before" mood, seeing Spike as just a genuine person who's not acting just to get better treatment himself or befriending the apes for the sole purpose of escape. I at one point found a translation of the Japanese cutsenes from Ape Escape 3 and Specter's dialogue felt a lot more like he was relying on Tomoki despite not knowing his backstory at the time, so he really just heard "Let's chop the planet in half" and went "Hey I trust this human! Even at the cost of the Ukki 5 lets roll with this!" So taking from that, Nannersverse Specter just has this almost imprinted leaning towards humans as comfort, and Spike if just such a genuine good person with not really much in the lines of ulterior motives that the albinos headset just outs him on the fact that he finds Spike soothing.
