I promised myself that I would share my work when I finally finished it, and I did last night. I have made a big cat hood, more or less from scratch, and have a pattern to go with it.
I want to give thanks to reddit user u/schmoogina for putting together a pup hood pattern that I was able to hack into a Big Cat pattern. It's the top comment under the reddit post below, and I've included the user's google drive link that I used.
The face and ears I made myself, using neoprene I bought from a crafting store, and a few snaps from the same store. I traced the pattern onto the neoprene using any white pencil, like a colored pencil. Didn't have to be a special "fabric pencil" to serve as a fabric pencil.
I mounted the face and ears on a store-bought diving hood that I got from amazon. Link below, no affiliate. Other hoods can work, I'm simply sharing what worked for me.
I've got my version of the face pattern below.
I used a vertical hemming stitch when sewing up the seams.
I don't have an exact formula for how I placed the ears, but I put the "lower" snap a little bit above the top of my own ear.
Total MINIMUM required materials:
Scuba Hood Base
Neoprene (28.5 cm x 43 cm / 11" x 17")
Heavy Duty Snaps (11)
Heavy Duty Snap Pliers
White Colored Pencil
A4 size capable printer and A4 paper
Scissors (the smaller/more delicate, the better.)
Beyond the Minimum:
Additional Snaps; you may misplace where the snap should go on your first few times, or have other errors
Thicker needle and thicker thread; you may wish to trim the neck of the scuba hood, and will want to sew up the seam to prevent unraveling.
Additional Neoprene; just in case you make a few errors or wish to add additional components, add longer ears, etc.
