This is from the au story I was working on for Trollhunters.

Irizhia (the one with the red hair) raised James Lake Jr. after his dad left him to her. Jim’s mom died shortly after giving birth to him and his dad couldn’t handle the responsibility.
Irizhia was a long time friend of Barb’s family so Jim Sr. left his son to her. As one could imagine Irizhia was insulted by the man abandoning his child and told big Jim that she’s raise his son as her own, but she better NEVER see him again or ELSE.
Jim Sr. got the message.

Thus she raised Jim alongside the other children in her care. Human, troll, and changling alike. See Irizhia herself isn’t actually human. She’s part of an original species of mine known simply as “The Amalgam”.
Think of changlings but in the opposite direction; no human dna. These lot are mixed breeds of trolls that are then magically altered and charged with more dna from other trolls.

Anyway, getting off track, Jim seemed to have a natural knack for magic thus Irizhia and others living in the safety of her wards and lands began to teach him their ways.

This particular day Jim was practicing shapeshifting yet again, something he’d been struggling with and being tutored by Irizhia, when one of their Guard Gnomes (Chomsky) came rushing over to his Mother and alerted her to a trespasser in the area.
Chompsky led them back to where the troll was discovered and were shocked to find none other than Kanjigar himself hidden under a tree yet turned to stone.
