Another long day over and done with. A drowsy tomcat crept down the hall, careful not to step on any weak spots on the floor that might wake up one of the kids. He let out a sigh of relief as he noiselessly closed the bedroom door, journey from the bathroom complete.
"You look like I feel," Krista chuckled from the bed. Dan watched as she leaned back against her pillow, arms folded behind her head.
"Vicky wanted to hear more story. So glad she went to sleep after the last chapter. I was worried I was going to have to start making stuff up."
"The trials of parenthood!"
"Don't I know it!" Although her comment came off facetiously, Dan knew that Krista truly appreciated his efforts. Less professionally ambitious than either his wife or their lover, Dan saw himself as a natural fit for taking on more of the parental duties in the house. All three did their fair share, and Alex had guaranteed that he spend more time telecommuting with a lower workload, but balancing home and work still took a lot out of him.
Dan winced as he reached for his glasses on the dresser. Interrupting the action, he bent his arm and pulled on the elbow, stretching the muscle. "Need to get a massage soon, I think."
"I could probably help with that...Want me to grab the oil?"
From the wag of Krista's tail, Dan could guess that she had more in mind than a backrub. "Careful where those paws wander, lady, or I'll snap you with this towel."
