Had a black Charter Arms AR-7 but sold it. Picked up this original Armalite at a local gun/knife show some years ago. For the uninitiated, these takedown rifles of .22 Long Rifle are designed to float assembled or not. Everything fits in the buttstock for storage. Often packed in airplane survival kits. I believe a rifle such as this was used in a James Bond movie.

They are way, way overhyped. Do NOT float, accuracy is better than a shotgun (barely) and they also are not that reliable at all.
A Nylon 66 was a better choice even back then ( except it is not really compact ). I would take a Marlin39 or FN Semi over it any day of the week.
In fact the Marlin is the perfect 22 for survival.

Yes the AR-7 was shown and used in a James Bond movie I forget what one right now.
My flight instructor had an ArmaLite AR-7 in his aircraft survival bag. I know the AR-7 got hammered for quality and accuracy when they were made by Charter Arms. From what I hear the ones made Henry Arms are of good quality with good accuracy equal to or better than Armalite.
People forget that the AR-7 was designed as an airdropable survival weapon as part of a survival package for down military pilots to be used against hostile forces, so they expect it to do more then it was intended to do.
An AR-7 is on my want list by the way.
