Dol Guldur est une forteresse construite sur la colline de l'Amon Lanc au sud de la forêt de Grand Peur (Mirkwood) en Rhovanion en Terre du Milieu, univers créé par l'écrivain JRR Tolkien.

Le style de la forteresse sur ma peinture est inspiré par celle du film "Le Hobbit un voyage inattendu" de Peter Jackson, dont les designs sont réalisés par les illustrateurs John Howe et Alan Lee. Dans les films le lieu est dépeint comme étant une forteresse en ruine aux origines inconnues et est le repère du Sauron qui se fait passer pour un nécromancien. Dans l’œuvre littéraire, la colline d'Amon Lanc était une colline dénudée d'arbres, ou Oropher père de Thranduil et Roi des Elfes Sylvains aurait bâti la capitale de son royaume, Ensuite la cité aurait été abandonnée et Sauron vers l'an 1050 du Troisième âge aurait investi les ruines de l'ancienne cité elfe et construisit sa forteresse dessus.

In the movies the place is depicted as a ruined fortress of unknown origins and is the lair of Sauron who pretends to be a necromancer. In the literary work, the hill of Amon Lanc was a hill bare of trees, where Oropher father of Thranduil and King of the Silvan Elves would have built the capital of his kingdom, Then the city would have been abandoned and Sauron around the year 1050 of the Third Age is said to have invested the ruins of the ancient elven city and built his fortress on it.
