Meet Dolato's mate named Yamka (Ямка)!
She is built rather stocky, outwardly reminiscent of a jaguar, short, I think about 128-129 cm at the withers. Color reddish-brown with golden brown spots, inspired by African golden cat.
Her personality contracts with the soft and sympathetic nature of her mate is Dolato: on the contrary, is more rude, distrustful and skeptical, expresses her opinion directly and harshly, but always honestly. She has a deep-rooted hatred of dogs, especially a breed that was bred to hunt her and her kind - as a child, she and her sister were chased by dogs when they were still cubs: Yamka was able to escape by climbing a tree in time, but her sister did not she was lucky, she didn’t have time to climb, or she slipped off the tree and, right in front of Yamka’s eyes, the dogs tore her apart - that’s why sometimes she acts in a fit of anger, without thinking about the consequences of her actions. In the novel, this leads to consequences not only for herself, but for others, and not always good ones. But despite this trait, Yamka is very devoted. She is fearless and ready to go to the end if the situation requires it. Dolato knows how to navigate the temper of his mate and they are a very strong couple who understand each other, know the weaknesses and support in difficult moments.
They have at least one cub named Хели/Heli (unisex name of Welsh origin means “saltwater of the ocean”), agender (born male), meaning they don’t identify with any gender and prefer the pronoun ‘they’, who live on the coast of Baja California Sur, are exploring coral reefs (coral ecology); ecologist who loves to collect corals, shells. They have a good relationship with Ganzo and see each other occasionally when the Heli visited parents.
I deliberately chose pacific madrone as the tree to demonstrate how the predator's protective coloration makes her virtually invisible on the tree trunk. Yamka is small but excellent hunter, good climber and knows how to use her advantages.
