We stand at the centre of a confluence of futures ...
For many years, I've been working on a huge writing project. 'Monument' will be my second novel, and it's easily the largest work I've ever attempted. It's part of a larger series of stories I've written, and in no small way it's rather like that series's own 'The Lord of the Rings'!
Monument is so large that it is taking a long time to complete. The detailed draft of the work is finished – all 30,000 words of it – and I'm now going through the story proper. I'm making great progress, slowly but surely, but there's still much more to do. It’s going to take a little while before it’s ready, but I can assure you that the wait will be worth it! This work's a beast, and I'm guessing it will probably eventually clock in at about 200,000 words when complete!
Usually, I illustrate each of my pieces of fiction with one piece of art. The largest work in this series's canon so far – ‘Faith’ – has two illustrations. Monument is large enough to require even more. At current count, it features four illustrations, and may require a few more even that that. It depends on how much time I have! These illustrations are all planned out, and several have been finished already.
This work is one of the finished Monument illustrations. While I did consider keeping this piece back until Monument as a whole is released, I decided that wasn’t the best idea. Not least, releasing this publicly provides a little demonstration of the work I’m doing on Monument. Also, I’m particularly pleased by this illustration, and thought it would be nice to release it as soon as it was finished. So you get a small glimpse into the world of Monument a little early!
This illustration is placed within the latter portions of Monument. I won’t say any more about what’s happening here for now. That will need to wait for the full release! Although you're more than welcome to guess!
Incidentally, anyone who can identify the move that Palkia is using here gets a free imaginary internet cookie!
In this work, Palkia was modelled on various poses of Palkia seen in ‘The Rise of Darkrai’ and ‘Arceus and the Jewel of Life’, along with sprites from Pokémon Masters EX. Various parts of the background were modelled on artwork and spritework from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky and, perhaps unusually, artwork from Pokémon Generations episode 11, ‘The New World’.
Background Music:

<Oración – Shinji Miyazaki>
