There is actually a lot of history, but whilst you can have the pentagram facing up, that in itself is more related to the pagan sects regarding the five elements of life and it's natural orders. However the reverse or inverted you get this distinction -

Another name for the satanic pentagram is , The Goat of Mendes or the Sabbatical goat Ebros. Most confuse them with Baphomet which was one heralded by the templars as a Christian symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
