Here are the comic relief characters for Freedom Squadron: Liberanger. We have Jake Barkley, Justin Monkeyson, and Professor Anton Weaselstein. I bet you guys are surprised to see Jake and Justin are making a return in Liberanger. Yep, they have become the apprentices of Professor Weaselstein in the investigation of alien lifeforms. Although Weaselstein is the boss, he is a bit crazy in his discoveries, leaving Jake and Justin to wonder if the investigation he has in mind is a good idea. Often leading them to encounter one of Hosbrai's followers. They are relieved whenever the Liberangers show up to save the day but are a bit confused why each time the Liberangers show up, the rangers who appear are different. Of course, they will see each Liberanger more than once, but wonder why they keep changing with each encounter. However, they don't make it a goal to find out why. Perhaps it will be a surprise when they see every Liberanger at once, now wondering why all of them are showing up instead of just five of them like before.
I actually asked for some advice on what they should each wear. For starters, I used Jake and Justin's original image for reference and then added some lab coats for each of them. Justin decides to make his lab coat yellow to match the banana on his shirt. In actuality, this was because I didn't like how he was wearing a white shirt and a white lab coat, so I changed the lab coat's color to fix this. I also decided to have Jake wear light blue pants instead of the original white pants he had before. Again, it was to make him look less white since he now had a white lab coat. I also was suggested to give Jake and Justin wear helmets and Weaselstein a pith helmet. I also gave them each goggles with Jake and Justin wearing theirs on their helmets and Weaselstein wearing his around his neck. I also got the suggestion of adding an image of a shooting star on each glass on the goggles.
Notes:
1. This marks the first time in Super Animal Squadron series in which a character from one series reappears as a regular part of the cast in a later series with Jake and Justin making their debut in Video Squadron: Gamerman.
2. Professor Weaselstein is inspired by both Professor Phenomenus from Power Rangers In Space and Dr. Anton from Uchu Sentai: Kyuranger. In fact, Weaselstein was originally going to appear in Galatic Squadron: Novaranger and would have filled the role of Dr. Anton's good personality while another character called Dr. Scatterbrain would have filled the evil personality's role. I am not sure if I'll still have Scatterbrain appear in Liberanger. Maybe during the second half of the series.
3. Although Jake and Justin are not set to appear in Draconightger Vs. Fangranger despite the main Gamermen and the main supporting allies will, there will be a mention of them at the end foreshadowing their return in Liberanger.
4. Jake and Justin's comeback in Liberanger is reminiscent of Bulk and Skull appearing in every season of Power Rangers from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Power Rangers In Space with Bulk also appearing in Lost Galaxy with this being his last appearance as a major character until Samurai. A difference is that unlike Bulk and Skull, who also appeared in Zeo and Turbo, Jake and Justin were not in any of the Super Animal Squadron series that came out between Gamerman and Liberanger, making their comeback more like Bulk's comeback in Samurai, as he hadn't been a regular in any of the seasons that came out between that and Lost Galaxy.
5. If you've seen my picture of Salvador, I mentioned that he was originally going to have brown and white fur instead of the finalized black and white fur. Jake happens to be the reason I made this change as I thought they looked too similar.
