You could say "But that chick looks EXACTLY like Luna!" and you'd be absolutely right :D But I can explain it, I swear! First of all, as I mentioned earlier, I had an incredibly short time to create this comic from scratch, and I'm not going to lie, I thought I could save a lot of time by taking a character I drew a lot and changing it a bit to fit this story. And that brings me to the other one, the antlers, because I definitely wanted to give the Queen of Winter a simple set of antlers with icicles dangling from them, like a simple crown. Plus, Luna was white and blue by default, and what other colour would I have given the Queen of Winter :D So that's how Luna got a small role in this comic. Plus, I was able to draw Luna as very nice by default, which again suited the ambiguous story and message of this story.
I was under the impression that children (especially if they read books) are not so stupid that they wouldn't understand a more nuanced story. And I thought a little punchline was necessary for every short story, hence the Queen of Winter, who turns the villagers into undead out of sheer altruistic goodwill because she thinks it will save them from the horrors of life, while the villagers are on the complete opposite opinion :)
I've written a lot more about these few pages than I usually do under my drawings, but I think the excitement I felt about the competition and the soul-destroying race against time to finish it in time left a pretty deep impression on me :D I hope you enjoyed this little story, and I hope I get the chance to do more like this in the future ^^

Oh god, that end is so dark. "You'll see them again soon enough. And you can live together happily until the end of time."
Could either mean his family dies soon, probably during winter, ooooor that in the face of eternity even decades are even less than a blink of an eye.

What she described is kinda what afterlife is often depicted as: a place where you can meet your lost relative and 'live' forever an ethernal life without needs. You just exchanging a 'death' for another...
Not to mention... She just said his family would join him soom enough? She's a predator!

Wow! So... the little boy can't go back home to his ill mum and his sister because he basically died in the snow... and the 'happy' ending we get now is:
"Don't worry little one. Both your mum and sister will be dead too soon enough"
Yeah, I know they're not really 'dead'. And what the Queen is saying is true: they will meet again soon, so it is kinda happy. But still... it feels bitter :/
Not saying that's a bad thing though. This comic is an amazing piece of art, truly touching and emotive (like all of Viktria's creations ;3 ). It's just that... it touches your emotions in an unusual and unexpected way

This is very interesting.
First off, the people decided to settle here in this icy wasteland. From the look of it nothing forces them to stay.
Also, from the looks of it, this new eternal life is only as eternal as they want it to be. As they can now exist in the cold, they could always walk to a warmer climate, where they, looking at his reaction to the lamps, will die again.
The only thing that is left unclear is if his body is frozen the way it is or not.
But all in all, after their deaths people can spend as long as they want with each other.
Of course to the villagers it looks like she is hunting them as people simply vanish. It is easier to assume this than thinking that they froze to death out in the cold and alone. I wonder if they even have something like a cemetery or if they simply leave their dead outside the village, where she finds them.
This reminds me of a song I only remember vaguely. I think it was Siberian in origin. It's about several travellers on a sleigh in the middle of winter on the way to the city and one of them sings it. He sings how they loose one after the other to the wolves that are after the sleigh until the singer is the last one on the sleigh the song ends with a line akin to "The city is so far and the wolves are so close."

I kinda feel everybody is reading a bit too deep into this one here.
There is this webcomic very very similar in thought to this small tale Viktria here has drawn called loving reaper. https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/.....itle_no=353275
If a link like this is bad I'll remove it.
But essentially as far as this world is concerned the ice queen is very much the grim reaper and benefactor of the afterlife. That's...simply it. It's a cherished hope we can continue with ourselves and meet the ones we lost after our time is finished here.

There is an old movie where a little boy and girl get to visit the Land on the other Side (I think it was a Shirley Temple film) and they come upon their grandparents, who are asleep. The old couple wake up and are delighted to see the children, and tell them that they can be awake every time someone in the other world thinks about them. When they send the children on their way (to complete their quest), the old couple yawn and fall asleep again.
My dog passed away earlier this year. I believe that an afterlife, if it exists, is the product of a machine in the far future that transfers your mind to the future after you die (and to make sure said machine will be built we need to work towards a compassionate and caring society that will want to build it--spread the kindness), so I hope I get to see him again in that far future. It still hurts miserably and I still sometimes cry for him. Perhaps the icequeen is that machine's avatar.
I always thought that there were several Deaths--the Lady Soft-Hands, who brings an end to suffering, the Warrior Death, the Vengeful Death...I think Terry Pratchett did something similar to that idea in Discworld...
The one change I'd suggest for this, is to have the boy's footprints either disappearing as he walks away with the Snow Queen, or just no footprints at all.

Regardless that the Queen of Winter is very similar to Luna, I must say that it's very interesting the fact that she represents Death in this universe, in a way; not to mention how dark this story is when she tells the boy that he will be reunited with his family very soon, which is quite... disturbing, to say at least. At the end, I must also say that I liked this story as a whole, even with the sweet-bitter ending it had; awesome work by the way.
There are some interesting mixed messages in this one. Most of the paragraphs describe what we would usually call death and the afterlife, especially meeting perished relatives. However, she specifically says in the second paragraph that he's NOT dead, that she is saving him from death. So that makes me wonder just how many of his lost relatives and friends she has saved from death.
