We Don't Have to Wipe Ourselves Anymore!
Another Percy Jackson pic, 'cause I'm on a dam Riordanverse kick at the moment. Here's the Seven (Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Jason Grace, Leo Valdez, Frank Zhang, Piper McLean, and Hazel Levesque), plus Nico Di Angelo (whom I've already drawn) and Reyna Avila Ramirez Allerano, obviously taking a break from demigod stress.
I honestly never thought I'd do something like this, at least not for myself. Normally, especially, like here, when existing properties are involved, I don't like to AB-ify more than one or two characters at once. I just find the idea of so many characters together coincidentally having the same bizarre interest a little too absurd for my liking. Maybe it's my internalized AB-phobia.
These characters are primarily here to illustrate an idea of mine. Let it be said that when you read Percy Jackson as a kid, you think being a demigod would be so cool, whereas when you revisit the series as an adult, you realize how complicated and traumatic the characters' lives are by virtue of being demigods. This got me thinking: Since age regression is frequented by people who've experienced trauma, who've grown up starved of parental love and support, or who have high-stress jobs, maybe it's common among demigods.
Well, one thought led to another, and I came up with the idea of Hebe, the goddess of youth, running an AB daycare for demigods, maybe with separate sections for gods, satyrs (that's where Grover would be, in case you're wondering), and other mythological figures. It shouldn't be too out of place; after all, Percy Jackson is about adapting mythological figures into the modern world.
The daycare could be a nice, safe place for demigods to hang around whenever they need a break from their traumatic lives and carrying the world's fate on their shoulders. A little time there could help heal their mental wounds so they'll have extra strength once it's time to go out and fight monsters again. Their caretakers could sense their inner children and what connects with them to help them ease into little space, and even appear to each individual Little as whomever they feel safest around, be it their mortal parent, an older sibling, or whomever. There'd be precautions taken as well, since demigods in littlespace are prone to losing control of their powers and not thinking about consequences, as seen with Hazel in the picture.
I think you get the idea. Hope you enjoy, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
Edit: I've now read Chalice of the Gods and met Rick Riordan's Hebe, so I'd like to modify this to fit the canon:
-I don't think it's in character for Hebe to work here as a caretaker, so scratch that idea, but she might run it alongside her arcade, Hebe Jeebies, and take charge of the daycare's magic and stuff like that (Hopefully they don't have to sing "Happy the Holy Hen"). She might have nymphs, minor goddesses, or other spirits working as caretakers; we'll still follow the idea of caretakers appearing to each individual Little as a parent or older sibling.
-Canonically, while she does have the power to physically de-age people, she doesn't turn anyone into babies, since she thinks the true magic of childhood starts at around age 8, but she might have a different attitude towards people age-regressing for trauma therapy. At any rate, I don't like the idea of the daycare's magic actually regressing the Littles either physically or mentally, as opposed to helping them ease into little space naturally.
-I remember seeing some video (it may have been by Aliakai, a Hellenic polytheist YouTuber), which suggested that Ares, the god of war, might help people who've suffered from PTSD, so maybe he'd also oversee this daycare in some form. I don't think Percy would be happy to see him, though.
That's about all. Also, if you're into physical age regression, Chalice of the Gods has a scene you can chew on.
Characters belong to Rick Riordan and Disney: Hyperion.
