Showrym (Open Species)
"Showyrm, or shower-worm"
These huge, grub-like creatures are lipophagic and avid mineral consumers. Their digestive system is well-adapted to consuming the natural oils and minerals produced by various creatures. They aren't particularly fast, however they do own a rather long, fleshy proboscis-tongue for which to snag creatures and siphon fluids with. Said tongues are quite dextrous and capable of being used in place of hands; their tongue shows no impediment regarding speed: even tool use has been documented.
They've been given the name 'shower worm' for the fact that humans and other natives in their area have used them to become surprisingly clean after a short stay within their bodies. So much so that it's as effective as a quick shower, once toweled off.
They do not stop growing, however they will consume their own fat stores and length when their nutritional demands cannot be met.
Some have a tougher carapace, others (sometimes selectively bred ones) have softer backs and more 'fuzzy' appearances, such as shaggy or moss-like coats that help trap moisture and keep the showyrm moist and hydrated.
Temperament: Intelligent and curious. One might assume that these creatures don't have much grey matter, considering their slow movement and simple lifestyle. This is quite untrue, while they are fairly solitary in the wild, they show great awareness around bonded owners. Many owners report having an unspoken 'connection' to these beasts.
TEXTURE:
There is a massive variety of textures that depend on the species, however their general body structure is soft and malleable, easy to squish and deform. They can tense their musculature to be firmer, however there is usually a layer of fat beneath their external flesh.
Their tongues are complex structures, with microscopic structures that enable it to be slick-smooth, or terribly grippy, regardless of how wet the appendage is.
Their inner flesh is slick, soft, and immensely malleable.
Muscle and flesh and fat seem to fill in any nooks and crannies seamlessly. As 'prey' are kneaded and churned about within the wyrm, their oils and minerals are thoroughly absorbed, leaving them merely cleansed in easily water-washable saliva.
Carapaced wryms have a tough, yet flexible chitin that locks olin moisture and protects them from harsh environments. Moss-backed wryms are soft, fuzzy, and are often fuzzy/furry on the outside (they are the most versatile and popular of showyrms among owners) Slug-backed wyrms are usually found in high-humidity rainforests, and are slick and covered in mucus.

NUTRITION/FEEDING
Showyrms have highly adaptive metabolisms, requiring the bare minimum in terms of consumption.
Showyrms primarily lipophagic, or fat-eating creatures. What this means is they seek out energy-dense fats to fuel their bodies, which this is most often obtain through either plant matter, or through the excretions of other creatures natural oils. The latter tends to be their primary source, as they don't need much to maintain their current size.
Regarding protein consumption, this is often obtained by their prey's sheddings, dead hair, scales, skin cells, etc.
Carapaced worms have a higher need for protein, and will likely need supplements if their usual prey isn't sufficient.
The typical Showyrm will have a gizzard and a hindgut. The gizzard is typically absorptive and contains soap-adjacent compounds that pull and absorb free oils and minerals. The inside is described as soft with multiple fleshy spines and villi, with powerful muscles to encourage 'washing' and full absorption. The hindgut is where vegetative matter is processed.
Yeah! Basically endo-friendly giant grubs wah :3c
Open-Species and ya can make anything you want, 's more of a concept I've been playing around in my head for a bit.
