It's kind of funny that Fleet does have some modern looking outfits, although the one from Lovers is from an alternate universe though, especially since her world has airships and mechs. But that's what feels off for Meri though, she doesn't know that those outfits actually belong to Fleet and especially in this time period, Dungeons of Aether just came out in the same month she turned into Fleet. But another thing that feels off, is that there's going to be an AU version of this arc where she meets the Real Fleet, so the current Meri could just somehow feel like she's wearing her friends clothes even though she can't do that. This is basically part of the joke of how and why Meri can wear Fleet's actual outfits without knowing why.
Funny enough the outfit Meri has at the end does seem like the kind of clothes the Real Fleet would be wearing anyway if she was in more modern times. I guess you can say that Meri is wearing the Lovers Fleet's Casual Outfit, even though realistically speaking it's more like its Meri's normal clothes, but she's wearing pants instead of a skirt. But Felicity is right, Meri does tend to wear the more normal and modest clothes, that just makes her beautiful somehow. I'm pretty sure that this is because is actually just a nice and kind Succubus and that's why normal clothes would work for well for her. If I have to guess I'm pretty sure if the Real Fleet has modern clothes, they would definitely be a bit more athletic looking than Meri's current outfit. Fleet will most likely use Meri's outfit if she plans stay at her house or something.
Anyway, now she now has a good outfit that would make Felicity feel less awkward than she is already at having to be a literal cartoon cat woman, because today is Meri's turn to lead the hang out for a bit and being anthro is one of the requirements.

It's not like you're trying to take over the place of someone's else to begin with Meri
But oh well, look Meri instinctively know what Fleet would wear :) (or had seen them once but doesn't remember)
Anyway, I know that's probably not your intention, but it sparked my imagination of thinkign of it as a reverse effect : Since she want you to think of her when you see Fleet, by wearing different outfits as Fleet it has cause the real Fleet to now having those same clothes :p

I'm pretty sure it's more on the instinctive base about why she felt compelled to find the exact clothes that Fleet would wear even though her knowledge of the character is based on my limited knowledge of her at this time period.
It's interesting concept about why Fleet would have those outfits, but I think she would've picked them herself eventually. I think the only thing the Real Fleet would be influenced to wear is the Modern clothes that Meri chose at the end.
