As I mentioned, the theme for this year’s Wild Wild West Con was Heroes and Villains. When they announced the theme last year’s closing ceremonies, I knew I was already set because I already had my Gaslamp Green Arrow gear.
But I didn’t want to do JUST GGA and I already was ready for that too. So for Saturday I donned the green goggle mask and quiver filled with various trick arrows and played the hero. Even came across another verdant archer Robin Hood and we both made sure we got photos together. There was a Hawkeye that went past us but he was on his way to host a panel.
But for Sunday, I went dark. Some might say it was the Blackest Night.
Sometimes people will make easy costumes to close out the convention and call it a “dead day.” Well, I did have my own “dead day” but in this case it got even more involved and literal. Originally conceived for a super hero themed zombie walk, I made Black Lantern rings and similarly themed props to make Black Lantern Green Arrow. In my lore, the bow is made from the spines of Más y Menos and the hand is the arm that Roy Harper (aka Speedy/Arsenal) lost that I put on an arrow shaft and fitted with a Black Lantern ring.
And yes, as someone pointed out with astonishment, I “slayed one of (my) own costumes for this costume”. I grabbed the ORIGINAL version zero WulfBane head and attached it to my belt as a trophy of BLGA’s hunt.
And speaking of WWWC themes, this will be two years in a row where I’m already set for the next year. They announced that the theme for WWWC #13 will be Steampunk Halloween. Steampunk WulfBane is already there and will likey get some equipment updates. But even more exciting is I want to bring back Foxy! I want to make a steampunk automaton body for Foxy and perform my
masquerade routine during the fashion show.
