Yes, we're gonna celebrate Man After March for this month's event. For the unintiated, Man after March is an art event created by reddit user u/keeperofbeesandtruth where you create 31 posthuman species to fill a specific niche, natural or otherwise, and this will be the first time I will partake in this event. I realized that I'm tardy with it now being day 5, but y'know what they say, better late than never. (I'll post the missing posthuman species from Days 1-4 eventually, but on one piece of art and give an abridged version of their bios, only giving their common names, stats, diet, and brief rundown on their behavior.)
Name: Tummarnacle
Scientific Name: Venterbenthis abyssus (Abyssal Benthic Belly)
Taxonomy: Genetically Modified Human
Max HP: 10-25
Max ATK: 0
Diet: Chemosynthesis
Sapience level: Non-sapient
Length: varies depending on how deep its habitat is.
Belly Diameter: 3in-1m
Bio: This project will take place in what will be a hybrid of both a posthuman and a seed world planet, with the role of vertebrates on this planet, which will be called "Anthropoterra" being soley filled by genetically modified humans, with plants originating from Earth.
Our first subject of this posthuman seed world will be about a posthuman species that had to sacrifice almost all of its defining human traits in order to fill its ecological niche. This sessile posthuman is called the Tummarnacle and lives in the abyss on hydrothermal vents, clinging to the rocks with their heavily modified feet, which fuse to the rock, hence their name being derived of the term "Barnacle" and "Tummy," which 90% of their mass is situated at. Speaking of tummies, the body of a Tummarnacle is almost entiriely ossified save for its foot, navel, and umbilical cord, which protects the posthuman from the high pressure deep below. The size of a Tummarnacle ranges greatly, with the smallest being only 3 inches in diameter while the largest can exeed a diamete of 1 meter
The proboscis of a Tummarnacle, connected to the posthuman by its navel, is extremely long and goes all the way up to the surface of Anthropoterra's oceans. This proboscis ends with two blowholes which can function independently of each other and do two different things. The first blowhole pumps down the air to the main body, while the second exhales heat from it and into the air, essentially functioning like a cooling so they aren't boiled alive by the heat of the vents along with its feet, which have small spiracles that allow vent water to enter the posthuman and be expelled when nutrition is absorbed. Inside the Tumarnacle's body are chemosynthetic bacteria which feed on vent waters taken in to produce nutrients for the Tummarnacle. In return, the colony of bacteria is protected from the outside world.
