I wouldn't say that Thonis's skull face is horrible or unsightly myself, though would draw quite a bit of attention and possibly distract from admiration of his muscles, lustrous shimmering mane of hair and his bright scales, and the veil would add a sense of mystery that will only draw in the admiring glances.
Tios probably appreciates Thonis drawing all the attention, so they can go quietly unnoticed as suits their subtle ways.
