Solaris Federation Navy Arctic Fox AI Avatar
I was bored and decided, to doodle up what is going on inside all of that artificial fur.
They may be cheap and mass produced, but they do a perfect job of allowing starships to express themselves to their human counterparts.
Better could be done with advanced synthetic muscle, but the general thinking was that such technology should be used to protect people, and these avatars are simply replaceable puppets of larger machines, so there was no reason to waste the resources there. Despite the loss suffered in the mass department(the standard model weighs around 70kg despite only being a 100cm) they are actually quite hardy, and their simple design makes them easy to repair with field robotics equipment.
This model was commissioned to look similar to the arctic fox of earth, to match up with the designation of the latest drone carrier AIs. Like all mass produced AI avatars, they are made to be androgynous and are not given any visual indication of sex. The intention being for the AI to imprint upon it their own identity, whichever they so choose.
It should be noted that this is a simple robot by the Solaris Federation's standards. By real life standards this robot has barely entered the wildest dreams of modern technology with its skin sensors, balance, and cameras reaching near human levels of sensitivity.
The SFS Aonia of course uses one of these to communicate with her crew in the various stories I've written about her.
