Several Thousand years in the past Prince Auren Azoth was the feared general and loyal Demigod son of "The Forbidden King" a Monstrous Tyrant whose pride and endless hunger for power drove him to do what was thought to be the impossible, he broke a legendary and stole their power, usurping his way into being a cursed legendary himself for the other legendaries would never accept him sucking the life from another legendary, so he waged war with the Legendaries not only for his continued survival, but to conquer reality and reshape the world as he saw fit!
Auren had first seen his father's war as glorious and revelled in battle believing his fights were honorable with worthy foes, but then his eyes were open to the true suffering and fear his father caused and that he had helped spread. Burning bright with righteous fury Auren betrayed his father and lead a mass Rebellion within his own ranks, charging to battle against the Forbidden King...And was struck down...He had lost, and he had lead his comrades to their demises. Grief stricken it took a long time for Auren to find himself.
Eventually his war had ended with the Forbidden King defeated but not dead. The best they could do was to seal away his body so he could not cause any more harm, and not without casualties. Arceus themself was one of the victims injured in combat and had to separate themself from the world falling into a comatose sleep while their wounds festered like a poison in their body. During this dark age following the war, the legendaries annihilated the legacy of the Forbidden King and removed all knowledge and memory of him from history and the minds of mortals in order to try to keep his prison secret so it may never be opened and the beast within never again free to wreck such havoc on the world again.
For Auren, he at least did not have to live with pokemon around him knowing who he had once been, to anybody alive who had once fought with or against him he had become a myth. Stories of the war of the Gods had become misremembered tales of disasters, deaths of loved ones were explained away with plagues, but Auren knew; He forced himself to memorized everyone who had been lost to the war, he grieved and mourned for all of them especially if there was nobody else who could, and he was ashamed of himself. He has been a monster pokemon feared, a renegade who failed to be a hero, and had now become a remnant of a time that no longer existed. He began to wander the world as a stranger calling himself "Starfall" who no longer had a purpose to continue existing. Battle and conquest no longer had glory or honor, for some time he lost himself...and then at his most lost he found a new path to follow.
In his meandering he found many pokemon who were in trouble and went out of his way to help them. He became involved in the lives of strangers, and communities, he traveled the world opening his eyes to all the different ways pokemon live, appreciating different cultures and philosophies. Sometimes He would settled in a place for some time living whole lifetimes among average pokemon, gaining many experiences, and he learned to accept loss and death. He learned and took to heart lessons of humility, patience, mercy, forgiveness, and found himself a new purpose as a wandering guardian protecting pokemon in need and offering mercy to those who had also lost their way, for if he could rise from the lowest depths surely other pokemon could too with a guiding hand. Then some pokemon started to follow Auren's example starting the Order of Guardian knights. Errant Peacekeepers with no allegiance to any crown or kingdom who trail about the world trying to do good where they can.
Auren hardly ever uses force or violence to solve problems preferring to turn his enemies with persuasion and being very stubborn, but not everybody will change their mind without a fight so he carries a Shield and Lance which appear to be made out of stained glass. One would think that these would be terrible weapons, but the Shield produces a barrier that can block any weapon and the Lance create a force that can break any barrier. They are themselves Contradictions.
