The OVQ-7S2 Quadmotor, a product of refined and continued development, traces its lineage back to ancient designs that date back to the Creators, the AI Wars, and the Unification Wars. The Valshad Empire, a prolific drone maker during the Unification Wars, used drones for various roles, from reconnaissance to attack. The evolution of these drones has seen over 25 generations of quadcopters produced by multiple manufacturers throughout the Teshkavan history. This rich history culminated in consolidating military quadcopter construction into Imperial Light and Machine Works (ILMW).
As the Commonwealth has expanded, designs have continued to be adapted for new environments. Conflicts in stations and on barren worlds forced field modifications of this equipment with new means of thrust. ILMW was inspired by these field modifications and worked on a 6th generation drone to incorporate these adaptations amongst improvements in the flight model and control systems. Despite lofty promises, the drone was disliked by soldiers for being overly finicky, lacking in battery life, and being loud enough to be heard on both ion and prop models. Through 14 revisions, ILMW attempted to rectify the issues, but only to eventually cease development and start on a new generation.
With the vast majority of the 6th generation ending up as bombs or suicide drones, ILMW regrouped and developed a new 7th generation. Taking care to incorporate feedback from the field, the 7th generation of drones was considered a vast improvement over the 6th. With a revamped interface, quieter props and engines, and an advanced new sensor suite, the 7th generation has proven a stalwart design in prop and ion thruster models. The drone has only gotten refreshed with new battery technology, updated ion engines, and more powerful ultra-high-temperature superconductor (UHTSC) propeller motors, creating a drone that will be produced for decades.
Among the changes that ILMW implemented was the allowance of sensors to be mounted on top of the drone, such as the OSR-4S3 multispectral radar, which provides early warning for temporary encampments as a sentry. While the battery may only last four hours, power and data can be provided from the ground, allowing it to stay up effectively indefinitely. Soldiers can also use this to have a permanent overwatch, the sensors providing threat identification and early warning in the absence of other sources.
