1/4 lb (one stick) butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups diced apples (2 to 3 medium-size apples)
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 – 1 tablespoon cinnamon in 2 tablespoons (1/8 cup) milk
10” by 13” pan. Bake at 350 deg for 50 minutes. Do NOT open oven door or brownies will drop.
Yes, that’s the whole recipe on the card. My paternal grandmother (Mémère) didn’t write her recipes for a cookbook. They were a reference for herself. So, you need some cooking know-how to figure this out as follows:
Peal and dice your apples. Grease the 10x13 pan and preheat your oven to 350 deg.
In a large bowl, cream the sugar and butter. Now add your eggs one at a time mixing well after each one.
Combine the cinnamon and milk, add to the batter.
Sift flour and baking powder together. Slowly add it in batches to the batter mixing well after each addition. The batter will become very thick.
Fold/stir in your apples and nuts.
Place in the pan and spread as best you can. I did mention this is a thick batter, right?
Place in oven and bake for 50 minutes. Do not open the door during baking period or your brownies will drop.
Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares. Makes about 24 squares.
