So, after teasing about a complete overhaul of my OC Tat'yana at the beginning of the month and sharing some WIPs just for my Telegram/Discord followers, here is the completed (re)design!
In my setting, lycanthropy is not so much of a curse (although it still remains unexplained by scholars of magic and science) that can be passed onto people, transforming them into blood-thirsty beasts during full moon nights... rather a complicated condition that remains dormant for years during childhood, until you hit puberty and realize in horror that your body is growing dramatically differently compared to the other kids! Thick fur, claws and fangs come out during the following years, and often your body re-shapes as well, taking even more feral features such as tail, muzzle, digitigrade feet... if you think you had a troubled adolescence, think again!
By the end of it, lycanthropes are usually disfigured beyond recognition from what they looked like as children, without the luxury of turning back into what they once were during the day... on the positive side, they can't pass the "curse" onto others (although it seems to run in the family for some) and they still remain themselves at all times, at least in the mind; which is why they are also known as Skinwalkers or different names in other cultures. This said, they'll still tell you that "the Wilderness starts beckoning at you" once transformed, and some ultimately decide to willingly abandon civilization to embrace it...
Tat'yana here is probably young enough to still retain humanoid features and lack a tail, though her age is unknown, so it could be possible that this is her final form already. In her case, civilization abandoned her into the wilderness and not viceversa; sadly, not unheard of for lycanthropes. She was ultimately found and rescued by a military team during reconaissance training by chance; the base basically adopted her at that point and she became a soldier as well. This inspired the high brass to form the first and only Lycan Battalion of the world, where she has just been transferred to.
As for the scars, no one knows if they were self-inflicted or not... and you better not ask...
