Story:
"Why are you dressed as a cow?" She inquired, fully aware of the events of the night; more a question about her choice. "Do you like cows?"
Iris Sheepishly nodded, deeply embarrassed as to the admission of her fondness of the creature's she once saw on tv in the distant past. "So, Are you ready to go," Iris questioned, turning towards the street filled with creatures slightly less foul than the usual gaggle of crooks they'd contend with. "Clock is waiting."
Pressing past the entryway, and shutting the door behind her, Anyssa called out to those who were still inside, "Bye mom; i'm going to play with Iris for a bit," shutting the door, and locking it with a rusted key dangling from a obnoxiously oversized keychain assortment. Tail flopping around viciously behind her, they began their descent into the night of ghastly horrors, and demented depictions of modern households. Only hesitating when approaching the wingless demon from the isles of hell. "Do you like cats?"
Clock stared down at the small child in sorcerer's garb, perplexed at the odd choices of color, and symbol. "I guess," he puzzled, curious as to what would prompt such a wildly out of place question, expecting a flurry of hostile questions pertaining to his dislike of dogs; based solely on his affinity for felines, "I didn't have a costume, so i just out on some ears." Continuing to investigate the garments of Anyssa, the pieces started to fall into place, before falling back out of place. "What is your costume Anyssa, it looks cute," he asked, hoping to have some light shed upon the dilemma.
"I'm Ralsei!" she proudly declared, throwing her hands upwards in pride, allowing her oversized sleeves to roll down her arm, almost knocking her hat off her head.
Trekking along the endless neighborhoods, the sun would slowly set on the night, darkening the world, and prompting more adults to join the fray, as even more houses began to up their scare games. More sounds, more lights, more trickery, and more terror. For Iris, it was all just a show; a wondrous display of magical effects, and terrific fantasy. For Anyssa, it was too much; Hand desperately grasping onto Clock's at every given moment, the tempting allure of candy wouldn't even make her budge.
"You doing alright?" Clock asked Anyssa, having escorted her to the door of multiple houses in a row, only for her to back out at the last step due to a scary looking Bowl display, or a door hanger that looked a little too real for her. "We can go home if you'd like, I'm sure Iris wouldn't mind." Hand firmly held by a frightened child, the night would have to end soon, even he didn't want to be out amongst the horrors; it wasn't real, but real doesn't matter.
Anyssa merely glanced down the street, ashamed at how much of a scaredy cat she was, and how little candy she got throughout the night compared to Iris's haul of treats. Tail motionless but infrequent twitches of anxiety.
As Iris returned from yet another decrypt crypt of horror, She looked at Anyssa, and up towards Clock. She knew the night was over, but that didn't mean she couldn't still enjoy time with her friend, "It's dark," she proclaimed, "can we do 1 more house before we go home?" Anyssa's tail picked up at the thought of finality, Eager to escape the night, and count her spoils in the safety of her home.
Clock shrugged, letting Iris take the lead, "Fine, one more, But you have to take Anyssa with you," Instantly, Anyssa's tail dropped once more. "And no Scaring her."
house after house, they walked onward as they made their way back to home, Terrifying construct, after terrifying construct, endless rows of horrific displays, except for one. "This one!" Anyssa proclaimed, once again up in arms, and ready to get a final tally of candy for her score. A small house with a few hay bails, and scarecrows laying in the yard. Excusing herself from the safety of Clock's hand, she snatched Iris', and began dragging her along the driveway up to the door, swatting her cow-themed assistant with her tail accidentally.
*hhhh
Iris ripped herself free from Anyssa's grasp, and turned to face one of the props that laid along the path to candy. Iris' eyes trained on a singular scarecrow laying amongst the lay. laying in wait, motionlessly, Iris stared into the hollowed out eyes of the creature. "I know you're there," she declared, Leaving Anyssa confused and worried that something was wrong.
*schhhh_ssshh
Iris shifted her position once more, training her eyes on a different scarecrow, looming in the shadows, making sure to have a view on the previous scarecrow she had caught attempting to scare them.
"You're good." a voice called out from the shadows, Before sieving through a bundle of loose straw caught on it's foot, Walking past a now mortified Anyssa towards the doorway, Plopping down next to the bowl of candy they were so close to acquiring from.
A second figure arose from the first spot, wandering off into clear view of both girls. "Usually we scare ya before we give ya candy, But... I think we can make an exception." The wandering strawman joined his wife by the candy bowl, tugging a light figure to illuminate the pair. two jolly scarecrows, in farmers attire now greeted them, offering gifts of candy. "Sorry if we scared ya, Just what you do on halloween!"
In unison, they both ended their night with the fabled words, "Trick Or Treat!"
Have a wonderful halloween!
