Found, then left as a passion project in one of Gerik's workbench Drawers, found in a blasted-out museum half sunk into the Potomac River's sandy banks in 2120, Pulled out of its dust blanket in 2254, remade with denser alloyed metal with iron wood grips with tightly fitted grooved rifling giving its projectiles more momentum, this hand cannon became the go too weapon for punching holed into power armor like a hot knife through butter. Commissioned by the NCR Government in 2254 as an insurance policy against the Brotherhood of Steel, which would end up being a well-made choice, for eventually the NCR-Brotherhood war would break out a few years later. Originally starting as a small commission order of 500 for test trials to assess their effectiveness on the battlefield in the Rangers' battalions, Rapid success would reach the NCR capital, backing up what the gunsmith had stated about his revolver before.
The number of orders would increase from 500 to 2,000 as the NCR would demand that each battalion stationed on the front lines have 100 at their disposal in special units to face power-armored units. Gerik's contract would be finished in 2259 with no new contracts with the NCR government. With the Powerful Hand canon making headlines and more farms/Towns would be caught up in the war, new contracts would be made in various states in the NCR as well as regions outside of the NCR that had bigger threats, like Deathclaws and super mutants in armor or brotherhood/NCR Deserters picking up a life as a raider, an additional 200 would be made in small commissions for the civilian market. However, by 2263, there would be no real demand for any more of the revolvers to be made, with the Brotherhood in full retreat and going into hiding.
Small private orders would crop up now and then from wastelanders wanting a big-game handgun or to use against heavily armored problems that kept tormenting their home, until the production line was closed for good in 2270.
As the wasteland took more wastelanders holding this revolver on their person, or NCR soldiers retiring and taking one as a memento of their service, The Long .45 cemented itself as a pivotal sidearm used in the early years of the NCR-Brotherhood war, playing a small role in helping public appeal with sentient ghouls from tye news of its maker being a pre war ghoul still kicking around, however with fame came infamy, bountys as well as hit squads from tye Brotherhood of steel would be sent from time to time to take revenge on the Revolvers inventor while also further cementing the hatred sentiment toward ghouls with th Brotherhood doctrine, however, eventually tye dated revolver would be replaced with armor piercing ammo loaded into the more common, mass produced 10mm pistol from Gun Runners. Costing less, weighing less, faster fire rate, holds over double the ammo capacity, and uses a more commonly found ammo type. By 2281, NCR had replaced The Long .45 with the hunting revolver as well as the 10mm pistol, both using armor-piercing rounds.
The Long .45 is commonly found in a long forgotten, dust-covered ammo dump in the deserts waiting to be picked clean, a Family fireplace mantel or on the bones of a long-fallen wastelander or soldier that had one when they died, finding one is a gem as well as a treat to use, it's a NCR historians dream to find one as well as a deathclaw hunters new best friend.
