The climate of Drakensrym is as voracious and elementally charged as its titular denizens. When the binary stars are riding low on the horizon, all but the most sheltered of alcoves find themselves buried beneath ice and snow. Whether you're a simple woodland creature or a dark conspiring wizard, winter is a time of recuperation that requires immense preparation. It is a time often spent together, although many find themselves alone with the roaring of the wind... and the dragons, unphased by the cold in which many of them were sculpted.
"Thank you for coming out here tonight, Lunox... I can not think of many other dragons who know the winter like you do."
"Of course, cutie~. I'm still not really sure why you'd want to be out in such bleak weather, but knowing you, you've discovered some strange new elixir that requires the `crispiest of snowflakes`"
"Well, now that you mention it, maybe I should have brought some via... Uhm, well, point taken, haha. Though, you are partially correct. In my studies, I have learnt of a legendary event that occurs only on the coldest night of the solar c-c-... cycle. By my calculations, that should be today.
However, one night amongst this frozen hell hides a sight more wondrous than any treasure. When the world is at its stillest, a collection of souls begins across the supercontinent, pooling at the world tree and culminating in a warm, celestial glow that can be seen from the furthest sea and through the harshest blizzards.
"I knew it~. Well, since you said we could be out for a while, I uhh, made you something. It's a scarf, infused with our, uhm... warmth. Just in case your enchantments didn't work! Or, well, even if they did, a bit of extra comfort-"
"Thank you, Moonbeam~. I was, uhm, slightly embarrassed to admit it, but I did underestimate just how penetrating the cold would be. You- you always outdo yourself. I was already asking so much from you- you should let yourself relax a little more. Thank you, though. This means a lot to me."
"I'm glad you like it, cutie... and I'm glad you're not mad about that snow ditch earlier- you know, someone once told me, 'solving other people's problems is sometimes a lot easier than solving your own'. Helping people, making things for them to enjoy, it brings me joy. Maybe you should listen to your own advice some time, Sunshine. If you weren't so stuck in your books, you might've stopped the feel the cold with your own scales.
For the lost, it is a beacon of hope.
For the religious, a symbol of great reverence.
For the rest... It is simply a sight to behold.
"I... Well, I suppose you're right. I don't know where I'd be without your help tonight-"
"Stuck in that snow ditch~?"
"Hey! Your fat tail was the thing that... anyway. That is enough life lessons; as it happens, you were not the only one with a gift planned for tonight. I am sorry for ignoring you lately; I hope this time now will make up for it. Look... over there.
"Woah."==========================================================================================================Thank you very much to the precious
Lunox_Astralis for drawing this for me as a surprise Christmas gift! I love everything about it, the colours, the scenery, the scarf that matches their eyes... wafgshjf. I haven't been able to talk to them much lately, or any of my online draconic friends, because I've been so overwhelmed by uni, but I'm happy to kickstart this holiday with a little story in return though. I would've written more and better, but unfortunately I had to sleep and I wanted this done before Christmas ^^"
