This is a slightly different art commission as it is in the form of music rather than something visual.
When I created Euro in the mid-2000s, I was starting to become my own individual, breaking out into the world, trying new things, and being my own self. This was a big change from just accepting the things given to me by my parents or being told how things were going to be (my parents were very strict, controlling, and structured, which greatly affected me). What was I doing? Trying to be independent, trying to rebel and escape certain aspects of my life that held me back. Trying to discover certain media from my childhood that I missed never got to experience, seeing more of the world, trying to make friends (my social life was pretty dismal at that point in time). Just wanting to be my own person, build up an “empire” or “pool of knowledge” so to speak, of my own creation. It was a time of optimism, of discovery, excitement, growth, development, since I could start doing things my own way. In the end, some things did work, some things didn’t, and it took a lot of trial, error, and time to get things sort of right. But I still have lots to show for it, and I still go through derivative phases of this occasionally.
This is the feeling I wanted to capture in this fantastic musical piece composed by
