Bought me some pickled japanese sour plums to eat with rice, and got this delicious idea
Recipe:
1 cup cooked white rice
Mirin
1 Avocado, sliced
6 sour plums, halved
Kewpie Mayonnaise
Bonito and Egg Flakes
Yuzu Ponzu Sauce
*a shake of toasted sesame seeds, shichimi / nanami togarashi or your favorite furikake seasoning
1. Season cooked rice with mirin (Best way is distributing with a wooden spoon for rice)
2. Top rice with avocado and plums
3. Add mayo, sprinkle on bonito flakes
4. Finally top with ponzu sauce. Enjoy.
Thoughts: This was absolutely delicious, I knew my love of avocado sushi would come into play here and I always love sour plums with rice. The mirin I think is important because it gives the rice more of a sweet vinegar kick that brings the flavors together, and the ponzu sauce is far superior to soy sauce if you like citrus like me.
