I'll preface this by saying I don't think this will be my best story.
But of the ones I've written lately, the idea is one I'm the most proud of. I wanted to do a story that was both full of tragedy but also a beacon of hope. It might be good, it might not. I definitely needed to spend more time editing it. But as it stands, I'm very proud of it.
A severe storm is approaching a widower's home. Even when faced with such imminent doom, she does the only thing she knows how to do.
She dances.
Oh yeah, this story was written in 25 minutes, is 637 words, and something I wrote after spending some time in VRChat with friends.
Tap Tap Tap
It starts with a soft tring of a bell swinging in the night breeze. A cacophonous noise resonating with every hit of the pendulum against the side. A storm like I haven't seen dancing on the skyline. Gray clouds blotting out the sky on a sea of darkness, completely blotting out any source of hope.
But I hang out for hope. The chime of the bells urging me towards the possible brightness of which the clouds are blocking. The chimes are a signal to the storm. A warning call towards the inevitable disaster barreling towards me. Even then, I don't let it get me down.
My feet stomp on the floor, the chimes urging me towards a smooth transition. My feet tapping along the floor, toes a tapping and my arms waving to the beautiful sound of the discordant bells. Because it is within chaos that true beauty can be found.
I continue my flow, shoes tapping against the floor even as the raging tornado picks up everything along its path. Various bits of houses and fields being ripped out of the ground. Foundation all but a suggestion as evacuated houses are decimated by this raging storm.
But my dance continues. Feet stepping to the beat of this discordant melody, dancing for the hope that I'm so desperately looking for beyond the storm. My arms wave with every spin of the dress adorning my form. The dark gray almost reminiscent of the tornado as it finally reaches the house.
My dance goes unhindered, the stepping joined by the roaring winds as I'm whisked into the sky. Feet stepping over various planks of wood, leaps sending me across destroyed cars as the overwhelming noise of the twister joins the sound of the beautiful bells. I get flung this way and that, but my dance continues unfaltered. Still looking for the light that lies beyond this storm.

My shoes clang across the roof of cars, no doubt denting the hood but uncaring as I dance my final dance. All of my beauty is glorified with this singular dance.
A family photo flies by. The image of my two beautiful children and husband flying by as I grasp the family photo. My hands stretch out to grab it, only for the photo to get swept up in the winds! I double my efforts, the wind chimes doubling their discordant melody to match my manic pace.
Tap tatap!
Tapping along the melody in my heart, it becomes hard to discern if the water rushing down my face is from my own tears or the rain pelting against me. Jumping from place to place, feet tapping along to my heart beat chasing after my family. Wanting nothing more than to be with them again.
And then…
The top of the clouds appears. Family photo flying right towards the opening at top. I'm finding myself getting closer, feet hitting various foothold on my way to the top. Rising so high as the chimes sing reach towards their crescendo at the same time I jump for the family photo…
All before the wind chimes stop.
Completely silence.
And my hands clasp around memories long gone.
I know they're tears this time. Fresh streams flowing down my face while I clutch my family close to my chest. Looking around I see nothing but light. The Sun shining above the clouds, illuminating everything there is to see. A shining beacon of hope above a monsoon destroying the land.
That's when I hear the wind chimes start up again. A beautiful melody urging me towards what I love the most.
Tap tap tap.
My feet urge me forward, jumping from cloud to cloud as I clutch my family portrait close.
Tap.
I will…
Tap.
…See them again.
Tap.
