Sincerepost alert:
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a centaur character names Firenze saves Harry from Voldemort in he get lost in the Forbidden Forest. Seeing this scene in theaters 6 years old, I didn't understand my subsequent reaction all that well, but I found myself being drawn to this character in particular. Firenze barley shows up in the movie itself beyond dimly lit, washed-out profiles - but his sturdy and grounded physical stature and strong feral half appealed to me instantly, something that I didn't know if I wanted to simply admire or to emulate myself.
Not gonna extoll any virtues of HP but long story short this memory remained dormant for many years, up until I discovered furry art on the internet. Awash with the wide assortment of anthro types that I enjoyed were "taur" forms, something that was seemingly much more popular back then than they are now. Taurs were always some of favorites. Shortly before jumping into the fandom by joining Twitter in 7 years ago, I had a goattaur character commissioned. It was the sona of choice on my FA page for a long time before I started using Twitter. However, once I created my actual Twitter account, I pulled out and decided to go with a normal anthro goat form - the one you you all know.
Shyness got the best of me. I don't even really think taurs are stigmatized among furries, but the sheer rarity of them definitely put my confidence to the test.
I've tried to develop one chic after another over the years with my goat as attempts hone in on a substitute for what was always missing. The wide-brimmed hat toon bandit arc with Victor the Kidd is something I still think is very cool, and the world I created with Victor/Otto/Marv is ripe with storytelling potential, but I simply just don't enjoy or care about engaging with these characters beyond palatable visual stimuli. I've expressed such substitutions with kinks too - ABDL is something I only developed a taste for in 2018... oddly enough feeling like a more conventional manifestation of furry sexual quirkiness than taurs are. Again, it's something I still enjoy, but it was never my raison d'etre.
Victor the Kidd and my older Victor Goat character just ultimately felt like PR fursonas which masked what I truly felt deep down.
7 years later, I've seen many of my favorite ppl in this community show their appreciation for taurs, which has helped me develop a bit more assurance in this part of myself. Fratty guys are an archetype of confidence, I've always loved seeing it in furry art. My undergrad years were an exceptionally fun and transformative period too, perhaps this is a chance to continue that zest for life.
This is Victaur. It's me, so just call me Victor still. I hope you're all cool with this pivot. He's kind of a slob. In this pic, he has manifested as late Gen X'er pissed that he missed Woodstock '99.
Hope this wasn't too gay lol. Having 4 legs simply feels great. I'm not sure if I'll stay in this form permanently or if its essentially another wardrobe shift - I hope it's permanent. In a chapter of my life where so many other changes are occurring, I feel like another is appropriate.
